BR: bridesmaid dress help

FSIL asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding.  DH and I going to start TTC the end of next month (had to change bc of thyroid issues) and FSIL is aware of this and ok with it.  I am completely aware of the fact that it may take a while for me to get pg but I want to have some sort of game plan for if I get pg between now and the wedding.

This is the dress she picked out.  WDYT I should do about size?  Should I buy it a size bigger and if I am not pg just have it sized down?

  • when is the latest possible time to order? That dress is NOT forgiving and couldn't be altered for a belly.

  • I am really not sure bc IDK SIL has even looked into it.  This is why I am worrying.

  • ditto pp. i would wait for the last possible time to order. it doesnt seem like a dress that would work if you are pg. the times i have see a pg bridesmaid, they usually had a different dress in the same color.

That's what I was thinking.  I may have to see what's what or when we get fitted see what the stores says.  I hate to get FSIL to change my dress and then I end up not even pg for the wedding.  Tongue Tied

  • This is where you have to walk a fine line. Since they know you are TTC it's a smidge easier, but you need to make sure it's not all about you. They probably have a 4-6 month order list so probably soon. If you were to get pregnant on the first try you would be 5-6 months pg. Check with the other pg ladies, but I would order 2 sizes larger AND order and extra yard of fabric. Then find a great not good, but great tailor or seamstress. Either way you are going to have to have the dress remade.

My sisters wedding was in April and we ordered our dresses the November before.  IDK is SIL has looked into this at all yet.

  • Would it be out of line for you to "take this on"? Organize all of the bridesmaids, make sure every one has paid and sized. You could take it off the FSIL's shoulders. That way you could have some more control over the situation. But that sounds a lot like the control freak in me.

That's the biggest issue I have with being involved in the wedding is they are soo fly by the seat of their pants and I am such a planner/control freak.

  • For my 1st wedding I had to change my bridesmaid's dresses because one of my BM's didn't put down her deposit and they were discontinued. I don't know if had any similar experiences, but maybe that's how you could present it. I would like to help you by taking the responsibility of the BM's and their dresses. That way if anyone has any problems with their dresses the come to you and not the bride and add additional stress.
