Gray's Anatomy

My husband watches Gray's religiously. (and yes, I make fun of him terribly for it). I tend to watch it if he watches it, but it's not one of my must see shows.

We DVR'd the season premier. I watched it yesterday. Is it just me, or has that show gone completely down hill. It's like a fricken soap opera now. The stuff that happens on it is so random and deliberately shocking, that it's hard to take the show seriously.

Do you think the same?

Re: Gray's Anatomy

  • Grey's has definitely gone downhill since S1 and S2 (my favorite seasons - and critically the show's best). But it's also been soapy. Sadly I will never give up on the show. I just read this week that Shonda Rimes (the creator) wants to evolve it into a legacy show like ER that runs for decades. But that means cast turnover, new doctors, new romances.... and even though I puffy heart ER, it took a weird shocking! dramatic! dark! turn after S8. I don't want to see Grey's decline like that even more than it already is.

  • ER definitely turned into the Bret Favre of TV shows. They needed to quit like 5 years ago.

I LOOOOOOOVED the old episodes of ER though.

  • Grey's has totally gone down the drain, but we still watch it!

It so was. I was only a very sporadic viewer during the initial run, but I was always amazed that it just kept going. Around the time the series finale aired in April, TNT started running old eps back to the beginning so I made it my mission to watch every single episode. I'm now on S8 (the season Susan comes back and Mark kicks it in Hawaii). Only 7 more years to go!! I'm pretty sure I'm qualified to be a doctor after all the medical shows I watch.

  • I agree it has gone downhill from seasons 1-2 but I still watch it anyway.  I hope it doesnt go on as long as ER though, the first seasons of ER were good but the last 5 shouldn't have been made.

This. Its a bad habit that I can't (and don't want to) quit. It is SO emotional though- they just put you through the wringer every 4 seconds.
