do you match your outdoor decor to your front door?

i posted this on D&R earlier:

currently our front door is brown, so it's neutral and matches all my wreathes and decor throughout the year.  i want to paint our door a brick red, but i wonder, do you match your decor to your front door color?  none of my outdoor decor would match a brick red door, but i just love the color...what are your opinions?

Re: do you match your outdoor decor to your front door?

  • I don't necessarily match my door (it's a forest/hunter green color) but I do use things that compliment it or won't clash.  Like our bench I painted heirloom white and I have a bright green garden stand out front as well.
  • I've never really thought about it to be honest.  My door is a dark hunter green, but my storm door is all glass w/ white trim.  As a whole my house is very green w/ white and black accents.  Thinking about my wreaths or other things I hang on there, I guess I don't really worry about it "matching".  But a lot of my wreaths are very natural looking (twiggy, leafy, flowery) and I think the green door goes well w/ natural type stuff.  I will say that I do have some specific holiday stuff that is pretty colorful...my Easter decor is very pastel and looking at it you wouldn't think it would go well on a dark green door, but I think it looks fine.

If you want to paint your door red, I say go for it (nothing more classic than a red door!).  I think as you buy wreaths or other door hangings or outdoor decor, you'll just naturally gravitate towards things that will look good w/ the red.  I think that's why most of my stuff looks good on my door :)
