How much are you willing...Pain, Time, Beauty
Re: How much are you willing...Pain, Time, Beauty
I voted for the only 1 thing hurting thing.... I usually wear heels to work because I think they are pretty and because my calves look awful in flats (I often wear skirts, esp. b/c SoCal weather).
But I hear that heels can shorten calf-muscles, which might end up making my calves look worse. I'm not sure what a shortened calf-muscle would look like ... I picture a wider calf, which would just be bad. I justify it to myself by thinking that all those Devil Wears Prada-type fashionistas wouldn't still be wearing heels if they discovered it makes your calves wider!
Today it's 2 things, the spanx and the heels, but I hardly ever wear spanx.
Sorry, tangent... so yeah, I guess I do sacrifice some time and pain to look good (exercising is time and pain, right? at least it's healthy for you). It sucks, and it annoys me that men don't have to wear heels or makeup to be similar to the "ideal" put out there for their gender, but I guess that's just the way it is. I guess I'm willing to do those things for the trade off.
Mostly this. Had you asked me in my 20s, I'd havce endured quite a bit. Now, meh, if it's not comfy, I won't buy it.
It's funny how we change with age, isn't it? I'm a lot less high maintenance than I was 10 (or even 5!) years ago. Then I wouldn't step foot outside the house unless I had a full face on. Now I'm like - eh, whatever, my hair is brushed. I think at some point I realized that no one except me cares how I look - they're all too busy worrying about how THEY look!
I actually voted for the 2nd option for the special occasion. I actually wear heels because I've always been more comfortable in them but I'm actually now trying to transition to flats b/c I noticed that every time I wear flats, my knees hurt b/c they're too adjusted to wearing heels all the time. Part of adjusting to flats is b/c I'm pg, but even though I obviously can walk comfortably in heels now since it's so early in the pg, I'm still trying to adjust now so that by the time I have a bigger bump, my knees won't be killing me b/c I need to wear flats.
I always spend 10-15 min in the morning to get ready (incl brushing teeth, washing face, doing my hair--which takes 2 min) so I don't really think I spend that much time on much. I'm boring--I only get my hair trimmed about twice a year (same style) and I put it up in the same way everyday since like 2001. I don't wear any makeup except lipgloss and sometimes eyeliner and concealer.
But for special occasions, I will spend up to 30 min getting ready but I almost never wear anything painful (unless it's the first time wearing it since I bought it and I didn't realize how painful it would be) b/c I have plenty of comfy heels that I can wear all day and prefer over sneakers so the ones that hurt just aren't worth it.
