shameful confession

My house is messy. Well, not just messy - it's dirty. My shower door is all covered in soap scum on the lower half.* There's pet hair in the crevices along the wall where I have to use the vacuum attachments to get it out. That kind of thing. The major areas are clean, but the corners etc are most definitely not.

But I'm not cleaning any of it because unless something goes freakishly wrong, we're moving into our new house in 6 weeks, and I've become lazy enough that I don't feel like doing a deep clean on the place now and then doing it again when we move out. I can wallow in my own filth and live with pet hair crevices until then. Stick out tongue

*Side note: has anyone ever found a shower spray [the kind that you spray on after every shower so you don't have to scrub] that actually works? I've tried them all, and none of them keep that damn glass clean. Good ole vinegar doesn't work, either. Maybe we have super hardy scum.

Re: shameful confession

  • I hear you on the shower doors.  I blame my H.  I swear ours never get 100% clean.  We've also tried everything - sprays, vinegar and good old scrubbing.  Scrubbing is the only thing that works.  The next best thing (shouldn't say best... b/c it still is 100%)... um, the least troublesome and effective solution is the Dow scrubbing bubbles automatic shower shooter thingy and a squeegee.  I love that the dispenser says funny things - like it isn't a shower gel or shampoo.  haha!  Even if it does not clean the best, it is good for entertainment.

  • I'm usually a fan of Comet but I really believe one of the worst things in life, is to clean the shower/tub.  So it doesn't happen often.  But when it does, Comet and I become real close!!

  • I'll cut you some slack.  I only have to keep up with pick up/organizing and I have been majorly slacking this entire pregnancy.

as for the spray - I never did find anything that worked.  When I lived in AZ the water left the most horrible scum all over the glass doors.  I vowed to never live in a place with glass shower doors again.  My new house has them but them are not completely see through so I just convince myself everything is spotless.

  • MauiWedding has it right, AZ has the worst water as far as being hard goes. It's amazing how much softer my hair feels when I wash it in any other state.

As far as the shower doors, my friend who has a super clean, perfect house has a squeegie thing in the shower that you have to use before you get out. Sometimes it's a little annoying but really it only takes an extra 30 seconds. I guess that's more along the lines of preventing though.

Our ceiling fans and window blinds are in desperate need of cleaning and I'm not doing it. At least you have moving as an excuse!

My dad uses these - he has for years. I don't mind doing it, but I guess I was trying to find something that Ben is more likely to do. Oh well - I might have to give in! Sad

Somehow, someway, have him clean the soap scum this time so he will then have a vested interest when you tell him about the squeegie thing. After he knows what a PITA it is to clean, be like "babe, I just found out if we spend just a few seconds after each shower doing this, we won't have to clean like that again!"

    I'm probably dreaming here huh?

The sad thing is, we probably have a 70/30 split for cleaning the bathroom - so he's definitely had to scrub the scum off before. He just doesn't care about preventing it, which I just don't get!

This.  It might sound crazy, but I actually prefer cleaning the toilet to the shower/tub.  The toilet is so much smaller so I can just hold my breath and blaze through it, but the tub always feels like it takes forever and is so much harder to scrub!

  • I loathe my glass shower doors for this reason. The best thing I have found for a good deep clean is bar keepers friend. Awesome for cutting soap scum and hard water marks.

interesting.  I have some of that from when I moved out of the last place we lived.  I couldn't find anything to get the water marks off the front of the stainless steel fridge and didn't want any odd charges.  I don't think you are really suppose to use it on SS, but I was desperate, and WOW did it work!!
