Looking for a veterinarian rec.

Hi ladies-

DH and I are picking up our puppy on Saturday (yay!) and I'd like to make an appointment to have him checked out.  Can any of you recommend your vet?  I'm in Mount Holly so I'd prefer no further south than Cherry Hill or Marlton.

Also, any training tips or general puppy tips?  Both DH and I grew up with dogs but it's been a long time since we've raised a puppy.  Thanks!

Re: Looking for a veterinarian rec.

  • My vet is in West Deptford, but we had to take my dog to the e-vet one time and we went to Mt. Laurel Animal hospital.  We were so happy with their service, we were seriously considering switching our dog to the regular vet service.

I don't have too many puppy tips because I haven't had to raise one, but a good food is key.  If you can, you should get your puppy a good food with real meat and not fillers.  If you're looking for a good food, you can check out dogfoodanalysis.com.  Crate training is not a bad thing!  And make sure your puppy is at least 8 weeks old before you bring him/her home!

    Good luck.

  • Congratulations on your pup!  My dog is the first I have ever owned, but being a dog mom is the best thing ever!

We go to the Burl Moor Driben Animal Hospital in Moorestown for regular check ups and have been happy.  Their website is www.bmdvets.com

Our dog got hit by a car a couple years ago and we rushed him to the Mt Laurel Animal Hospital.  They were PHENOMENAL and we would bring him there for everything if it was a little more convenient.

    Good luck!

  • I don't have any puppy tips for you because we don't have any pets, but congrats!

My best friend is a tech at the Willingboro Veterinary Clinic and to say she's very passionate about animals & her job is a huge understatement.  My sister takes her dogs there and my parents take their crazy dog there, also.

  • Congratulations on the new puppy!!

I take my dog to Burl Moor Dribben in Morrestown also and they are great.  They are a little pricey but I have a greyhound and Dr Dribben knows his stuff when it comes to greyhounds (they have some unique qualities that vets need to know about).  Anyway, I feel like it is worth it to pay a little more to get the care we get at Burl Moor Dribben.

Another great vet is at Chews Landing Veterinary Hospital, I grew up next door to Dr Grecco, he is a wonderful guy and a great vet.  The only reason I don't use them anymore is because I moved and my dog is not so good in the car so I needed to switch to a closer vet.  I would definitely still use them otherwise.  It is a very great office.

  • Thanks for the recommendations!  I'll try to PIP our new baby this weekend Big Smile

  • We took our new puppy to Dr. Marc at Voorhees Vet Center based on several recs I got here. I'm not sure how far that is for you but they are great there!

We've been going to Puppy Class at PetSmart and that's helped with training her. I'm not an expert but if you questions about what they've taught us, I will try to explain the best I can. But consistency is key. Don't let them do things as puppies because they are small and cute that you don't want them doing when they get bigger. So if you don't want them on furniture, then say no all the time to all furniture.

I definitely recommend having the puppy sleep in a crate. Those puppy potty training pads didn't work for us because she tore them all up but I've heard a lot of people tell me they work.

I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz
  • My only advice is to remain consistent.  Let the dog out at the same times everyday, and it should be easy to train.  My dog was trained 100% within two weeks, if not sooner.
