Just an idea

Just an idea but what do you girls think about doing a bake sale at the yard sale?  I know that we have some awesome cooks on our board and I would be happy to bake some items and bring them.  People who stop for the goodies could end up buying from the yard sale items and vise-versa.

Re: Just an idea

  • That's a great idea!

  • That is a great idea!!  I was feeling badly because I don't have anything to sell and was just going to show up for "support"!  Now I'll bake something and bring it!

  • That was my problem too.  I was looking around last night for items for the sale but didn't have much luck.  While I was making dinner it dawned on me that my friends had a lemonade stand at their yard sale and ended up making more for the lemonade than they did for the yard sale.
  • That's a great idea.
  • That's a fantastic idea.  I didn't have anything to contribute to the yard sale either but I could definitely bake some stuff and bring it.
  • When is the yard sale again? I think that is a GREAT idea! Who is organizing the yardsale again, I would like to talk to her about an idea I have.

  • Please post info for the yard sale.  I have a bunch of stuff that I've been hanging onto for the sale I would someday have (yeah right) but didn't want to freecycle since we could make some money.  I would much rather see the money go to Phillip and Gabby.
  • Brenn and Rosie-you have PM
  • Yeah, I haven't made the jump from the IE Knot but I would love to help in any way I can.  Please email me about the yard sale, I can definitely bake something for it. cococansing at hotmail
  • I'm actually working on getting a permit from the county of Riverside. Technically it is illegal to have a bake sale in a public place without a permit, and without a licensed kitchen facility- but I have a friend who works for the Health Department for the county and she's trying to get us special permission... I didn't want to post about it earlier in the week because she is still working on permission... but I figure what the heck- lets just go with it and forget about permits even if she does / doesn't get it...

Thanks for the thoughts and volunteering to help with baking!!!!! I'll send out PMs shortly to those who volunteered with address / location info!!!

    THANKS!

  • I never realized that you need a permit for a bake sale.  Churches and schools do it all the time.  I guess if it is for a good cause the city might be a bit more lenient.  Sorry if I spoke too soon with this idea.

oh defintiely wasn't too soon! Sorry if I came off as unappreciative about your idea- it was great! I just had so much in my brain and couldn't word it right- I was in the middle of a big project at work :(

I wouldnt have known it was illegal- or I should have said a "code violation"- except a good friend of mine works for the county as a health inspector. If they catch wind of things like that- they will shut it down and fine it if the appropriate permit was not obtained.

I didn't get the permit today- tomorrow hopefully...but regardless I think we need to do it anyway!!! I'll take my chances! :)

According to my friend, you can do one for a non-profit organization such as a church or school, but we don't have a non-profit organization ID# we're doing this under, so it doesn't count as a non-profit (if that made any sense, lol). It would have to be all baked at a licensed facility with someone who has a food-handlers card on premises. Crazy how stupid some laws can be :(
