looks like no flu shots for us

according to our doctors office the ministry is only allowing flu shots for people over 65.  They just called to cancel our appointments...poor us.  Looks like we are all going to be carrying around tons of hand sanitizer this flu season.

Re: looks like no flu shots for us

  • It's because there are some studies that were just released that showed people who get the flu shots are MORE likely to get the H1N1 flu (I am not sure if it's proven or just a few preliminary studies right now, I just heard it last week). So for the people at high risk for seasonal flu but low risk for H1N1 they are still giving the flu shots. But for the rest of us, they recommend not getting the flu shot until after you get an H1N1 shot. Your doctor didn't explain that to you?
  • I was told by the doctor's office that young children and pregnant women and the elder should NOT get the flu shot this year as it would make you more vonerable to the swine(h1n1).
  • I believe that, in most provinces, the seasonal flu shot is just being delayed until after the H1N1 shots have been given, if I understood correctly.

    This is what we have been told my our dental association.

    Personally I don't think we will be getting the N1H1 shot in our household b/c I don't believe in being a guinea pig for trial run immunizations.

    Betty I 100% agree with you on this. I"m too scared considering the fact it's such a new shot. I'm not risking my child or myself...

    If I'm sick I stay home (like today) if someone else is sick i.e. at work I tell HR either they go home or I do because I'm not going to risk it.

  • Well that makes sense then. ?I just thought it was somewhat strange that they are screaming at you on the news to get a flu shot and then we find out, nope don't get it. ?

  • I just came back from the health clinic with Lexi and the health nurse told me that the government is recommending all pg women and babies over 6 months to get the regular flu shot.  As for the N1H1 shot she said that the government guidlines have not been released yet but should be within the next 4 weeks.  This will let everyone know exactly what age group will qualify.  The health nurse mentioned that she had heard rumors that LO's under 1 yr old may not qualify for the N1H1 shot.

  • No matter what demographic you are I would not risk it;
    Where are the long term studies or results of this N1H1 slot!?

    Please... if someone told me to jump off a bridge because they were doing it I surely wouldn't. It is the same thing in my eyes...
