if anyone is interested - cloth diaper stash PIPs

thanks to my mom my "stash" is almost complete.

Many people recommend waiting to buy the larger sizes until after you know what works but I figure I can sell/trade if anything doesn't work out.  Daycares around here don't mind cloth (from the few I have talked to and hearing from other local moms) but most seem to want pocket or all in one systems so we went ahead and bought what we hope will work to get the expense out of the way now.

  • The patterns are so cute!

  • Wow!  Very cool.  I haven't even started yet and am still debating between all-in-ones and prefolds.

  • holy diaper stash! I can't believe you are not even half way through your PG so far and you have all that :) very cool.  I have been slowly working on our diaper stash, buying from diaperswappers ....also got a few new diapers from online stores when there was a really good sale.

i'm jealous of your stash :)

  • WOW!! that's impressive. i'm embarrassed to post mine!!  (still have to post my birth story! ;) )

we have been cding but i have like a fraction of what you do . . . we use mostly prefolds, some kissaluvs fitteds, and a smattering of covers, all purchased used (cost is my primary motivation for cding).  though my best friend just ordered me some new bumgeniuses, goodmamas and klos so i will finally have some NEW fluff!  i would say you are set!

  • I'm jealous that your daycares don't mind cloth! Although I heard a rumor that it MIGHT be OK at one or two places around here if they're AIOs or inserts...so I'll have to ask, but I'm not holding my breath. Sad
  • WOW!  That is amazing--they are so cute.

A friend of mine with a 4 month old recently told me that cloth diapering was the best baby decision they ever made, so I'm definitely interested to hear that so many people on the board are doing it as well.

  • Holy fuzzy cuteness!  What a stash!  Mine feels piddly next to yours...just 3 dozen PFs and a handful of covers (thirsties and bummis).  Our daycare only does sposies...I wonder if I can talk them into pockets, AIOs or Bum Genius?  May be worth asking.  Right now we just plan on using PFs + snappis + covers and then using eco-friendlier sposies for her two days/week in daycare.

BTW, I read on some site over the weekend, that even if you have to use sposies for daycare (fulltime, even) that you can still save money by using CDs when the babies are at home (weekends and evenings).  They said something like save up to $25 week by using cloth diapers and wipes when the babies are home and only sposies (diapers and wipes) when they are at daycare.

  • thanks everyone.  I would say 90% of this was purchased by my mom.  So I can still tell MH we are cloth diapering to save money - right?

My mom was just totally board b/c she cloth diapered me and is totally amazed by all that they sell now.  Back when she cloth diapered me (and my sister) she often took her prefolds and sewed elastic into them to kind of make a fitted/contour hybrid that still used pins.

We are lucky that daycares don't mind them, but of all the new mothers I know more than 1/2 of them cloth diaper at least part time, so I would think that daycares would have to be on board and there were probably many moms that lobbied for it years ago for it to be so easy on the rest of us now.

Lori - I would check with your daycare.  Even if it's part time it would still probably save you money (and you wouldn't be using the pockets all that much so they would definitely last through more than one child).  There have been some posts on the EFF board where parents showed the daycare a pocket or AIO and wetbags and they ok'd it.  Although many places just flat out say no, or say that it's against state law (and 99% of the time it's not - I would be upset with a day care place that lied to me or didn't know their laws) it probably doesn't hurt to ask.

  • We're boring we just use prefolds and thirsties covers but they are working for us and have saved us TONS of $$!! Maybe we'll branch out later, but why fix something that's not broke. At least not yet! I'm glad the prefolds and covers work for us now and have for the past 9 weeks but who knows if they'll continue to work. Time will tell!
  • SUPER cute!
