Hi Nesties from NOLA-relocating to NOLA

Hi Nesties

i'm in need of some real estate advice. My husband and me are relocating to Nola, he's working in the Gretna area and i wanted to know, which area is good to rent an apartment that is close to his job in Gretna. I will really appreciate your help.

  • we live in algiers point, which is v close to gretna and is a wonderful, close-knit community. you can take the ferry across the river to the french quarter, which is fun. i love living there. :)

  • If you all are looking for something sort of trendy check out the warehouse district. He would have to commute across the bridge to the westbank but it would probably only take 10-15mins because he would be reverse communiting. Its a really fun area with a lot of resturants and bars, mostly loft style condos and apts.

One of the best place to find rentals in New Orleans is craig's list. We don't have a lot of big complexes the way that other cities do. The following is a website that merges craiglist with yahoo maps so that may help you:  www.housingmaps.com

  • PS. don't rent anything in new orleans site-unseen. I would definitely make a trip down here about 1 month before the scheduled move, or try to spend your first few weeks in an extended stay hotel. In New Orleans a neighborhood can change from bad to good in the matter of 3 blocks, so you really need to be here to look at the rental unit and the neighborhood.

  • We are in the Oak Alley apartment complex on Carol Sue, and have had no real problems here.  They are still rebuilding and renovating from the hurricane (tornado hit the back building), but I know they have untis available.  However, I am not sure what the rent will be--I think ours is on the relatively low side b/c we've been there for 6 years.  The complex next door to us is nice (checked it out when we were moving but were a little more broke at the time to meet the income requirement) and has washer/dryer hookups in the apartments.
