Swine flu is starting to freak me out now

At first I wasn't too worried about it but the more I seem to hear about it I'm getting nervous. Just saw an article about a perfectly healthy 18 year old back home who got it and died from it :( So sad.

A child in my class was diagnosed with it and was out today so now I'm wicked nervous. We started a few weeks ago (before it ever came to the center) washing the kids hands as soon as they walked in the door before they could touch anything and I am constantly washing mine but I am still a little freaked out.

I think I am going to spend tomorrow bleaching everything in my classroom!

Re: Swine flu is starting to freak me out now

  • It's really not that bad, from the people I've known to have it. It's been described as a regular flu, and as long as you get yourself to a doctor as soon as the symptoms show up, Tamiflu will make you feel WAY better rather quickly.

People do die from this flu, as they do from the regular flu, and the only thing we can do is to be proactive about it and take your temperature regularly when you start feeling ill.

  • Ditto joeysgirl.  Washing your hands is probably the best thing to do right now.  My mom also told me to clean my cell phone once a week.

Your Student Health Center will probably have the vaccine available at a reduced cost to students.  I would call and ask.  Mr. Shoe and I are going get both the regular and swine vaccines at the LSU health center.

  • Don't freak out, here is an article to help you:

What's the big deal with H1N1?

    I'm nothing, if not resourceful.

I write sexy books. I read all the books. I love dresses & macarons.

  • Don't freak out too bad. I was nervous b/c pg woman end up in the hospital 4x more likely than an un-pregnant person. I had almost my entire class out with it, and 5 out of 12 students in one of the classes were hospitalized. I never really got sick. I had a head cold, but a very slight one.

My mom works at a hospital and with the infectious disease people. They said once a person turns 25 the chances of getting H1N1 goes down to 3%. Those that do get it, if they get to a doctor quickly and get tamiflu, the outcome will be no worse than a normal flu.
