Austin Nestie Needs Recs

Hello ladies.  My DH is going on a business trip to NO in a couple of weeks with other guys at his work.  I am helping him find places to eat and go out to at night since he is in charge of entertainment for the group when they are there.  Can I get suggestions as to where they should go?  They are staying at a hotel by the Convention Center.  And price is not really an issue since the company will be paying for it.
TIA for your help!

  • Commander's Palace. The swankiest restaurant in town. It's not walkable from the convention center area but they can get a cab. He should make reservations now. www.commanderspalace.com

A fun bar for cheap happy hour deals is Tuckers. They have STUFFED, DEEP-FRIED HAMBURGERS. Amazing. And, I think they can probably walk there. 869 Magazine Street.

Also, Arnaud's is a nice, swanky place. Most nights, on the jazz patio, there is a jazz trio who come to your table and play songs for you. It's pretty amazing and right in the French Quarter. 813 Bienville Street/
  • Restaurant August is near the Convention Center and is pretty good. They have an extensive wine collection as well. I like the Carousel Bar in the Monteleone and my all time favorite place to grab a drink is the Columns. Jacques-Imos is where I take all of our out of town guests- the food is amazing! It's uptown so they would need to drive there. Rock N Sake is a good sushi place near the Convention Center, Rio Mar has yummy ceviche and the best paella around! Lucy's is a more casual surfer bar that is near by and has decent food and a good atmosphere. hope this helps some!

  • My DH loves Gordon Biersch--it's part of the Harrah's complex and is on the corner of Canal Street, so it's within walking distance from the Convention Center hotels.  The food is pretty good there.  Of course, it's not a "New Orleans" experience, but it's good eats.
  • they all covered restaurants, so I'll cover entertainment

There's the French Quarter (lots of bars, clubs, and strip clubs).  The Warehouse District has some bars and clubs...the Metropolitan night club is there.  Mostly, people look high and are dressed to high trash but it can be fun if you're with the right people.  Warehouse district is by the Convention Center....The Red Eye is a fun bar.

I haven't been down there in a while since I had been pregnant and now have a baby so I'm not really up on the latest bars and clubs, but some of those are good (the ones I mentioned).  As for the Quarter...you can just go in the bars and clubs w/out a cover.  And the best part is you can bring your drinks on the street!
