Let's talk about...

random poll:  who was your first crush, what grade were you in, and do you have any interesting/happy/humiliating stories regarding said crush?

Sorry if this has been a question before... if so, at least for the newbie-ers, right?

Re: Let's talk about...

  • My very first crush was the son of my parents' friends.  I was in 1st grade, and he was older (I can't remember how much, probably at least 3rd grade?).  He could moonwalk and used to scare me by turning off the lights and shaking a glow-in-the-dark skeleton around.

My hardest crush was on the same guy from 8th-12th grade.  Five years spent obsessing over him!  Finally, senior year, I asked him to Sadie Hawkins and he said yes.  Then things got weird real fast (he stopped talking to me) so I cancelled.  A few years after graduation, I heard he came out of the closet.

I choose to believe that things got weird because he was gay, and not because he was repulsed by the idea of dating me!

  • My first crush was in kindergarten, on the only other Asian kid in the class.  His parents and mine were friends, and he walked me home everyday after school (just a small block), and had to open the door for us because I didn't know how to use keys yet.  Then we would watch cartoons together.  I remember us jumping up and down when a certain cartoon came on because we were so happy.

5 year olds... dang, doesn't that sound cute?  I even told my parents sometime back then as a child that I would marry him.  Things got a little weird only because all the white kids in the class teased us that we liked each other.  I guess it could have been because they saw us walking home together or something, but back then it felt like it was because we were the only 2 Asians.

  • How cute!

My first crush was in kindergarten too. With this adorable African American/Japanese boy...who had a fro! hehe. He was my best friend and we would play house a lot. Smile

  • I was also in kindergarten! I don't remember his name or even what he looked like. I DO remember that my love for him caused some drama with my best friend - who was another boy.

See, as the only girl in the group, I always got to play the part of Princess Leia. One day my crush and my best friend both wanted to play the part of Han Solo, and they asked me to choose. Now, I thought Luke was the better part, so I told my best friend to be Luke and my crush to be Han Solo.

My friend stopped speaking to me and we never played Star Wars ever again. =(

  • I had a big crush when I was in pre-K and kindergarten on my parents' friends' son, Donovan.  Once when my grandparents were babysitting both of us while my parents and their friends went out to a bar, my grandpa played a prank on them:  he had Donovan and me get all dressed up, sent Donovan into the bar where the parents were, had Donovan exclaim, "Oy!  What a day I'm having!  I tell ya, women!  Give me a martini...make it a double!"  Then a few minutes later, he had me go storming into the bar yelling "Have you seen my husband?  Have you seen my husband?!  I know that rat's around here somewhere!"

The entire bar -- including our parents -- were in hysterics.  My grandpa was quite the prankster.  :)

  • These stories are totally cheering me up on a cold, boring workday!  Love it!

How sad.... ah, the dramas we go through as children... feels real and affects you a lot back then, but now it's so cute!

That's awesome!!  Were you still in kindergarten?  I totally don't think I would have been able to say/remember those lines that early!  Thanks for the great story.

  • Travis W. Pre-K through to 1st grade. I looooooooved him. He had blue eyes and lots of freckles, which I thought was adorable!

Humiliating story: one day on the playground, all of my "friends" (who were in reality little cows) linked arms and marched across the playground chanting "Lisa loves Traaaaaavis! Lisa loves Traaaaaavis!" I turned bright red, ran away and hid and cried.

  • First crush was a younger boy!  I was in Grade 1 and he was in K (it was a split class).  Nothing ever came of that, though.

Hardest crush was in grade 5.  He liked my friend and everyone knew.  I always had very pretty friends so this was just the first of many Sad
