Recommend a book

Leet me start off by saying that I am not a book reader, but we are going to Gatlinburg next weekend and I want to read a good book. I can't get in to the Twilight books or anything of that nature. When I read a book I like to read Memoirs or Biographies or a fun, easy read. I have a really short attention span and I can't seem to get in to a book that doesn't have a sense of humor or is something I relate to. The last few books I have read were the Chelsea Handler books, Tori spellings books, a book called chasing harry winston and the confessions of a shopaholic, hopefully those will give you a sense of what I like.

Let me know if you have a book you think I would like to suggest!  BTW... I already have the Patrick Swayze book waiting for me at home, but I dont think I want to read that while I am on vacation, I have a feeling it will be quite sad!

Re: Recommend a book

  • It sounds like Jen Lancaster would be right up your alley. Her books are memoirs of her life and they are hilarious! She basically went from having it all in Chicago to being laid off and having nothing, its quite funny to read how she adjustes. haha I didn't go in order when I read the books but some of her titles are "Bitter is the New Black", "Bright Lights, Big Ass", "Such a Pretty Fat" and something else. I read BLBA first and then just finished Such a Pretty Fat.

     Have fun on vacation!

  • Jen Lancaster is hillarious!  She lets loose with the language though, if that bothers you in any way.  I read Julie & Julia years ago and really liked it.  I've heard that it's not the same as the movie.  Jenifer Weiner and Meg Cabot have good novels too.

  • I wasnt a book reader until I joined a book club- Try a few simple books, (or what I thought was simple) The Secret Life of Bees, The Book Thief, Good in Bed, or even the super girly books like One Fifth Avenue and Lipstick Jungle. I have plenty of other suggestions, but these are where I started. I cant claim to be a great book reader, but these are pretty good ones.
  • I would recommend something from Janet Evanovich and the Stephanie Plum Series, those books are definitely light-hearted and humorous!

ETA: If you read Confessions of a Shopaholic, you could try another one of the Shopaholic books from the series.  I've read them all and they are all great.  Or any of Sophie Kinsella's other books!

  • I recommend a few for vacation:

    Something Borrowed - Emily Giffin

    Something Blue - Emily Giffin

Any of the shopaholics, but read them in order or  you will be way confused. (thats if you havent read them all yet)

Time Travelors Wife - Not sure the author (but really good)

    Any Nicholas Sparks is good...

Sophie Kinsela Also wrote a few others that are good, like "Undomestic Goddess"
