NOLA-Mary

Hi Mary! I was wondering how your experience at Touro was. From your post, it sounds like you had a good experience with Dr. Perret. I have a consultation appointment with Dr. Rebecca Perret in 2 weeks. I don't have any reservations about her, but about Touro's L&D unit. Was it nice and clean? How were the nurses and staff members? I heard that Touro has gone down, so I was curious to hear from someone that actually delivered there. Any info about your stay there would be helpful.

Re: NOLA-Mary

  • Hi! My personal experience at Touro was a good one, from start to finish. However, I really wasn't there laboring that long; I did most of my laboring at home and went to the hospital soon after transition (right before the head starts to crown), so by the time I got there, my baby was ready pretty much ready to come out. The recovery part was great and all the nurses I had were so caring and really nice. At the time I was there, they were short- staffed and babies were popping out everywhere and they still managed to maintain their niceness and waiting on me hand + foot. The lacatation nurses were awesome, too. They had 2 on staff and they both came to see me several times a day without me having to ask or schedule with them. That being said, a friend of mine is currently pregnant and she went last week to have her u/s done and she was concerned about the hospital. She said it looked a little run down (also keep in mind the hospital is in a very old building and some parts aren't the most updated looking, like near the cafeteria - same floor as OB, they still have ugly wood paneling on the walls). And she was also concerned with the tech that did her u/s. The tech kind of slipped up and casually told them the sex of the baby (they didn't want to know) and the tech wasn't very accommodating to them and dare I say, kind of b*tchy. On the other hand, I would go ANYWHERE to have Dr. Perret deliver my baby! If I were you, I would take a tour of the OB unit and see what you think for yourself. Everyone has different expectations and a different perspective. HTH and feel free to page me with any other questions.
  • i know you didn't ask, but i just had my babies at oschner, and i absolutely loved it. just in case, you know, you don't like touro. :)
