Where to get a King Cake?

I know it's early, but what can I say - I'm a planner! I would like to order a King cake from a NO bakery, but I'm not sure which one?

Give me your two cents about which bakery might be good for a great authentic King cake, and which ones to avoid!

I get them from any bakery. I find grocery stores are not as good. You can't get a king cake until Jan. 6

I used to always get Gambino's shipped to me when I was living in DC. They send the icing and the sugar topping in the seperate bag so its sort of self assembly, but they come out really really fresh. Everyone in my office used to love them!!

Not true Saxy. Randazzo's in Covington is already making them. We had one for Christmas. Rouse's starting making them right after Thanksgiving. If you get it fresh it pretty good. But if you want to wait until Jan. 6, I say go with Randazzo's

I third Randazzo's!!! DH and I ordered two of them last year and had them shipped to Nashville and they were awesome!! We took one to work with us and everyone loved it!

well Jan 6 starts Mardi Gras season so I figured none would be on sale before then. I usually don't see them before then, but I guess I'm not looking hard enough.

Does anyone have recommendations for the filling flavors? I'm not from New Orleans and I've only tasted the original kind from Randazzo's, and personally it just tastes like a not-too-sweet cinnamon roll? So I'm still wondering what all the fuss is about?

Cream cheese or apple filled! If you zap that apple filled in the microwave for a few seconds, it tastes just like apple pie. Okay, second day of mouth watering....

Oh, my boss brought me a kringle cake for Christmas and that thing was awesome. Very, extremely sweet but awesome. Tasted like a praline!
