I was so freaked out when I had two ?spasms? yesterday.
They were so sharp it knocked the breath out of me and I couldn?t move. They lasted about 30-50 seconds each and were about 30 min apart. I wasn?t doing anything ?much??the first one I was carrying juice to the table before dinner and the second was getting up after dinner?lol
I of course wasn?t sure what it was; in my mind I had it narrowed down to ?growing pains? or Braxton Hicks. I was praying that it wasn?t BH already! MAN THEY HURT!!
From what I read online ?Some common symptoms of round ligament pain include: Ligament spasms or contractions/cramps that trigger a sharp pain typically on the right side of the abdomen.? = exactly where and what I felt.
I don?t see my OB until Friday and they?re not accepting any calls (great)?I?m guessing that this is what I had? Could it be BH?
EDIT: Getting up to get stuff from the photocopier 2 min ago I just had another one and it was strong! but it was over after 15-20 secs....
Re: Round Ligament Pain?
I don't know if I am right, but it sounds like RLP to me.
What I considered RLP was a sharp, stabbing pain at the bottom of my belly. I often got it if I had been sitting or laying down for a long time and then stood up. It would just shoot through me for about 15 seconds and then go away.
I didn't start getting BH until I was further along. They don't hurt at all, it is just a tightening of your entire belly. All of a sudden your belly will be as hard as a rock.
Sounds like RLP - especially as it seems to be happening when you get up. I find making sure I'm not turning/twisting/getting up/rolling over too quickly helps reduce the amount of pain.
Doesn't sound at all like BH. They are typically painless - just a squeezing tightening feeling and you can feel your stomach getting hard.
OK well I'm glad to hear it's not BH...but yikes!
DH wanted to go to emerg last night and I said no..good thing. I'd feel silly "umm...it's just stretching - go home"
I'm already getting up slowly from the seated position and I don't think I'm twisting?
Any other things that helped you? or do you just breathe through it!?
TIA!
I would just breathe through them. I don't think there is much you can do about it, just try not to get up too quickly.
Also, there is no need to be afraid to get BH. Technically, all women get BH and they can start at 6w, but only some people ever feel them. They are nothing to be afraid of. It certainly doesn't mean that labour is imminent. I think I noticed them for the first time around 28w.
Lisa, have you gotten yourself a decent pregnancy book? I'm not trying to be mean or snarky, but RLP is one of the most common things in pregnancy and once you read about it, you know when you're experiencing it.
It might save both you and your husband some undue stress and potential trips to the ER.
Again - I don't mean to be rude or mean - we're all here to reassure you, but it's good to educate yourself so you can calm both of you down in the middle of the night.
I know I'm a sissy & that's why I say drugs my friend.....DRUGS
Ahhh yes but there is the part before the drugs that you will feel. And well the whole issue of the drugs not working. A colleague of mine said that when her mom was pregnant with her the drugs actually numbed her from the waist up not the waist down.
Aww Man! Great! lol
I guess we'll see what happens!
Or, you could go fast and furious like my labour - and not have any time for the drugs, and feel every.single.thing.
I went in, said I'm Natalie-I-Want-An-Epidural-Lastname, and they giggled and said, no problem... and I asked and asked and asked and the nurses knew the anesthetist wasn't going to make it to me in time, and just kept distracting me. Nice try.
I'm a huge sissy. Huge. I was always saying "No worries, I'll have an epi."
Didn't play out that way. Not to scare you, hun. Just want to prepare you for every possible outcome!
Clearly I ended up fine, right?!
I love this! I know there are so many situations that can 'change things'...and if you survived I'm sure I will too - after it's done though LOL
During - I'm not promising anything. Yes I could be very well mistaken for being possesed but...
Thanks Hun...I know that not everything is according to our plan especially Labour - but it is good for me to be aware and 'prepared' for all possibilities.
