I think I remember that we live in the same neighborhood.  On Tuesday night, did you hear the helicopter flying over for like 15 minutes?

The cops were looking for someone 2 houses down from mine.  They were outisde with flashlights and going under houses.  Cars were flying everywhere and the spotlights were all over.

Re: **eddieboo**

  • I did actually!  I didn't know what it was though.  I live kind of close to the elevated expressway and hear noise from that all the time, but dang!  That is scary.  When we bought the house two years ago I thought it was the perfect neighborhood, but things have just gotten so out of hand on the westbank.

I'll have to tell Eddie that since he was wondering what the noise was too.  Did the police catch the person they were looking for?

Scary, scary times we live in.......

  • Since we bought the house in Nov. '04, there's been a body dumped at the end of our street on 8th street, we've gotten things stolen from our shed and off our porch, a girl down the street was taken from her house by bounty hunters, and now this.

All of the above has happened since Katrina.  Overall it's a good neighborhood but people are getting crazy.  I don't know if they caught anyone.  There was another flyover around 11pm but I was trying to go to bed.

I live a block off of 4th street.

  • I hope y'all don't mind me jumping in, but I live in Algiers and DH and I are looking to buy a house. We were thinking about Old Gretna near the levee/courthouse, but is that where y'all are? I didn't know things were so crazy in Westbank Jefferson.

  • Nolateacher--Old Gretna is a beautiful neighborhood.  The houses are very historic and gorgeous, just keep in mind that if you live near the Courthouse, come Gretna Fest, all your friends will want to park in front of your house and will be relieved they have somewhere clean to pee! :-)

Saxy--We live on 5th Avenue, our backyard faces the side of the 4 Columns.  It's really a nice neighborhood, but like you said, after Katrina people have gone nuts.  There is an apartment complex two doors down from us, that when we moved in around July '05 it housed the elderly, but is now a half way house for recovering addicts.  I wouldn't have a problem with it except that the people who live in the home are the ones stealing my paper.  There is one woman, who I believe has mental problems, that steals everyone on the block's paper if it's not picked up by 6am.  I know its petty but it is against code to have a halfway house in a residental neighborhood and so close to schools.  I am also missing a package and a Netflix DVD.  I don't want to accuse, but a nurse who visits this lady said her apartment is full of newspapers and that she is not all there.  I have taken my dog for walks and stopped to talk to some of the residents and most are very nice, but still.  EddieBoo gets up at 5:30am and gets our paper but I still feel nervous about those two pieces of mail that are missing.  It's been pretty quiet lately though, but I guess the drama will creep up one day.

  • nolateacher- DH says that's a nice area, but during festivals and stuff it gets busy.  I like those houses.
