teachers- a few questions!

Is there a general website for local schools and job openings? I just wondered if there was a one stop shop or if you have to go to every individual school website to see if there are any job postings.

Also, if one is looking for an art position, and he has an art degree and a valid teaching certificate, is that enough to get the job these days? I know nothing about teaching and the requirements...but I feel like I've heard that most schools require you to get a masters degree.

Is this a really random time of year to be looking for a teaching job? I feel like it is since the school year just got underway. If anyone knows of any art positions let me know!

Re: teachers- a few questions!

  • Most schools have already done their hiring for the year. The best thing for someone to do is to get on a sub list. That is probably the best way into a school system.  Budget cuts have hit departments like art hard.  Positions are probably harder to come by than before.  I am not sure about the Cincinnati area but Dayton has a consortium which schools post their openings. Long term sub positions could also become available. HTH!

  • Try effronassociates.com.  Quite a few local schools post openings there.  They have definitely tapered off since the school year started but it's worth a shot.  Good luck!  DH lost his job due to budget cuts (he's a science teacher) and has not been able to find another one.  It's tough out there right now.

  • I don't know about websites with postings...I work for Boone Co schools and they post job openings on their district website. Usually jobs are posted at the end of the school year, and sometimes the summer. I would definitely suggest subbing for the mean time. That is a great way to get a foot in the door.  I don't believe a masters is necessary, but teachers have to work towards the masters after a specified amount of years depending what state.

  • Ditto the effron site!  It's a great place to find listings.  PP's are right- this is the wrong time of year to try to find a teaching position.  The best time to get resumes out is in late March/early April. Ditto getting on sub lists too- that does help.  The market is definitely tough out there, but districts do hire.
