Gift Help, Please

For our 2nd anniversary we're doing the traditional "cotton" gift. I'm getting DH a nightshirt. Yes, a nightshirt. He saw the episode of "How I Met Your Mother" where Marshall gets Barney to wear a nightshirt and he wants one.

I now need help deciding what kind to get.

1. Navy striped Broadcloth, long sleeve - Navy stripe is classic,

2. White Broadcloth, long sleeve - it can be bleached with his whites and not get that funky pajama funk

3. Flannel, long sleeve - cute, but do you think that would be cozy, or terribly sweaty? I have an aversion to flannel myself so I'm not objective.

And did you know that these puppies are like $40 to $80? I found that really unbelievable. I guess there isn't a high demand?

TIA!

  • I would say the striped one, but did you see the ones on JCPenney.com?  Those are on sale under $40.
  • The JCPenney site is deceptive! I went through the whole ordering process, the monogram and the whole she-bang, and when I went to pay it says the item is not in stock. I tried it for a few of them and I'm surprised they let me get that far before saying, "Thanks for playing, we don't carry them."

I was going to order from the Vermont Country Store which is pricey, but the nightshirts seem nice quality and they carry DH's size.

Other websites look a little fly by night or they're for costumes. Like Charles Dickens "Christmas Story"-ish costumes. But if ya'll come across something good let me know.

  • did you check out LL Bean?

  • LL Bean has one nightshirt and it's cute, but it's flannel. I'm not sure of DH's feelings about flannel.

I may as well just ask him what he wants since that little bugger already figured out what I was getting him. He takes all the fun out of gift giving sometimes!

I am drawing the line at the stocking cap. Next thing you know he'll be walking around the house at night with a candlestick, and I see "fire hazard" written all over that. Wink

Oh, I'm sorry they teased you.  And the image you just described is hysterical.

OK, that just made me LOL.

One drawback of flannel - it pills.  I'd stay away from that, too.

  • For ya'll just chomping at the bit to find out which nightshirt I purchased.....*suspense*.....*drum roll*...........wait for it..........wait for it.........light blue broadcloth!

Everyone can relax now that they know. Stick out tongue

The navy stripe was short sleeved when I looked again, and the other one that was authentic Irish they didn't have in his size. So blue it was.

I had the night cap (the pointy kind so it would look like I was going to bed with an elf) in the cart and at check out I deleted it. Good call on my part if I may say.

  • BTW, Vermont Country Store shipping rates are ridiculous!

For $21.95 for 3 day delivery I'm expecting a unicorn on a magic carpet to drop it off at my door and grant me a wish. Or at the very least, give me some candy.

Although I'd probably be at work and wouldn't be around to see this happen, so the point is moot.
