We went to the breast surgeon this morning. It's good news - she caught the cancer as early as she possibly could have, it's stage 0! And it is DCIS, which is the non-invasive type of cancer, which is also good.
She is going to do the lumpectomy with radiation. No mastectomy, no chemo. She also will need to take tamoxifen for the next five years.
We are very happy! The surgery should be in about 3 weeks (hopefully they get it all out in one shot, otherwise they will need to do another surgery to take out more), and then she will start radiation about a month after that, for about 6-7 weeks.
Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes. I will let you know how everything goes after the surgery.
And make sure your moms/grandmas/aunts/every female over 40 all get mamograms!! Breast cancer is so manageable if it's caught early!!
