recommendations for a reproductive endocrinologist?

Hi Ladies,

I normally post on infertility - we got pg last year with twins on clomid but lost them in Jan at 17wks....

We haven't had any luck since and are deciding on moving to IVF soon. I'm between two docs and was looking for experiences, comments etc.

One doctor is Dr. Barnett in Frisco - he has great success rates but as my husband put it - "he's a machine" - he seemed ready to have us cycle starting next month.

The other doctor is Dr. Saleh at the Sher Institutes for Reproductive Medicine - he seemed to want to try something less aggressive first and do some more testing - he seemed optimistic that we didn't need IVF since we got pg once recently without it.

Do you know any stories about these two? If you have any other recs I'll take them....

thanks

Re: recommendations for a reproductive endocrinologist?

  • You know who I go to and I'd highly recommend either of the RE's at my practice, but I know it's not convenient for you.  Presby ARTs in one of the finest in the area.  I responded to your post yesterday too.  I know it's a tough decision to make but I think you need to go with the RE you are most comfortable with and who doesn't make you feel like a number.  I also agree with going the less agressive route, since you have had success in the past with less aggressive treatments.  Before jumping into IVF, which is costly and I'd guess you are OOP, I think you need to do at least a cycle of injectable stims with either TI or IUI so your RE knows how you will respond to the IVF stims so you don't run the risk of wasting money on being cancelled or overstimming.  I don't know anything about Dr. S, but I do know Dr. B is good and I believe works out of the Presby ARTs in Plano.  Will Dr. B listen to you and allow more testing and do a non IVF cycle since you're paying, if not, I wouldn't choose him.  Keep in mind, its not just the RE that brings the success rates, you want the best lab with the best embryologists.  GL!

  • I agree with what Sam said - about possible options, Dr. B & Dr. S.  I'm not sure who Dr. W is from our pp, but I think either B or S would be a good fit if you feel comfortable with it.  It's such an agonizing choice to make when you know time is being wasted trying to figure it out, so hopefully you can weigh your options according to what will be best for you both for the long haul.

  • Dr James Douglas in Plano is good. We both really liked him
  • thanks -

I know dr. B is good - but I don't get the sense that he would be happy doing a TI cycle to adjust my meds - i frankly asked him if we waited till Jan to do IVF if we would continue follistim cycles in the mean time

his answer: No, cause then you might get cysts and delay your ivf. I'd just put you on bcp now....

mind you - I HATE being on bcp and I am accutely aware that if there was a chance for a miracle before IVF in that case, the bcp would totally prevent that....

dr. b also insists I am pcos - based on my PREVIOUS testing and "they way I look" but has not done a lick of testing himself to confirm it or suggested repeating anything. he did suggest i do an rpl panel after the m/c and that came back clean (but didn't include NK cells).....

  • I don't have info on the two you mentioned, but we used Jerald Goldstein and loved him. Happy to give you more information if you'd like it.
