For my birthday, I think i've finally decided on dinner in the Midtown area and then going out for more drinks after. Even though i work in the area and walk around here almost every day, i don't really know what bars are in the area! Anyone have any suggestions for a place that isn't too expensive or loud or snooty?
TIA!

Finally! A Married Bio!!
Rattle & Hum (33rd between 5th & Madison) extensive beer bar, but also a nice casual place to just hang, and not too loud. (Though I'd check to see if there's a beer "event" that night, which could make it a zoo.)
The Ginger Man (36th St between 5th & Madison) Also best known for it's beer, but they also have a lush backroom seating area with couches, another section up front with the same. It can get packed, but not always and worth a try.
Further afield (I never really know how people constrict their personal midtown map)...
St. Andrews (46th between 6th & Broadway) Scottish bar, buzzing and cheery. And if you have a hankering for Scotch Eggs, you're in the right place.
And I was about to suggest the Zipper Factory Tavern, only to find out it has closed.
Have fun.
i'd call the ginger man and see if you can reserve some couches. that's a great place. is your party on a saturday? it's usually dead on saturdays but packed on weeknights.
i generally avoid midtown like the plague so other than hell's kitchen, i'm not sure what else to suggest. ?
I
hell's kitchen!! haha - its our old neighborhood. although i'm terrible and can't recommend any good bars other than an uber dive bar (Rudy's).
anyone else see the write-up about hell's kitchen in AM NY? DH and I were so proud of our old neighborhood and our favorite restaurant was first on their list!
have a great birthday celebration!!
