XP: Fashion Help (PIP)

I bought this dress tonight...still trying to figure out if I like it or not.  It looks horrendous on the model in the photo...but obv she looks super weird in the photo in general.  On me, it is more of a true "drop waist" dress and comes down longer and has more of a deep cut V neck.

Thoughts on this dress with opaque black tights and black (closed toe) flats?  Would that look ok?  I was thinking of adding a couple of long silver necklaces too...

P.S. - This is for a wedding in Cleveland this weekend.  It's going to be very chilly there (high of 59), hence the tights....although the wedding is indoors, so I could always nix the tights.

Re: XP: Fashion Help (PIP)

  • I think I would nix the black tights.
  • I'll need to see it on you -- I'm only concerned about the detail on the hips -- they look like outside pockets??

I would do a black patterned tight instead of an opaque just to jazz it up. But I think it's cute!

  • Ditto the patterned tights.  What does the necklace look like?  I'm just thinking there should be a little bit of color if you are doing black dress, black tights, and black shoes.

  • Mamie - it's actually like a layered ruffle that doesn't connect in the front (if that makes sense)...
  • How long is the dress? If it's that far above your knee (like it is on the model), I'd wear tights...especially if it's going to be cold outside. I don't like the idea of tights and flats though, at least not with this dress. I'd say go tights with booties/heels  or no tights with flats.

It definitely would help to have a PIP of how it fits on you though.

  • Dress looks nothing on me like it does on the model...it comes down to right above my knees on me and the waist is much more of a drop waist (as opposed to hitting at the waist).

I despise booties...I think they were the worst invention ever.  Can't wear heels...flats are my only option...and I don't have any flat boots (and don't have time to purchase any).

  • Well, I think the dress is cute, but I was thinking along the same lines as others who suggested patterned tights/heels.

If you have to do flats, I might suggest a more sheer black stocking (not tights) and then maybe a colored shoe.  Do you have one?  That plus a nice statement necklace, maybe like the one you were thinking last week, would be nice.
