Hi:) and quick question...
I wanted to introduce myself. I've posted a few times on The Knot but I'm new to the Nest! Got married on 9/5. Loving married life:) Definitely need a hobby now that the wedding planning is over!
Quick question for you. I just got my new SS card with my new name. I need to get a new passport and I need to get a new license. I have never had a NY State license. (old state license expired and passport is about to expire)
Which should I get first...the passport or the license?
Thanks!!
Re: Hi:) and quick question...
Good question. Have you googled to see if you need one before the other? I know having a passport first will help *immensely* in getting a new NYS driver's license! (i bet even if it's in your old name, as long as it hasn't expired...) You need 'points' to get your license and your old license is worth a few, your marriage license is worth a few, your passport is worth a few, etc. And you need a certain amount of these points to get your license. My passport had expired so i had to bring in my *birth certificate*! Which i didn't have, so i had to write to the hospital in Georgia where i was born and request for and pay for a copy! Whew.
So, see if you can do the passport first without a new license. If not, see how many documents/points you have to get your license.
GL!

Finally! A Married Bio!!
Such a pain! I only need to send in my marriage license & passport to get the new passport. I checked the "id points" and it said I needed birth certificate, passport, etc...but it's nearly impossible to find out if it's ok if my passport is in maiden name?
I think I will send away for the passport and then get the license.
Congrats and welcome to the board!
I don't think it makes much of a difference, but I had done my license, ss, then passport.
