Hey Tina, I've been doing a ton more research online (reading reviews, multiples forums, etc.) on prams since our last convo about it and I think I've come to a decision - thought you might like to know!

The front runner is the Baby Jogger City Mini Double Stroller (this one) - I picked it after a ton of research based on:

* parent reviews (the only con seems to be that there aren't a lot of things to hang shopping bags etc from, but you can always add these hooks)
* durability
* ease of use
* width (I was determined to get one that would fit through a normal doorway)
* and weight (it's only 12kg, while most of the other nice duals are closer to 16kg).

I also decided to go with a side-by-side vs the tandem because we'll need both seats to be able to fully recline, although I know this probably isn't as much of a concern for you.

It's pricey in Australia - most seem to go for about $850 or more. HOWEVER, it's only $399USD/$460AUD in the USA, maybe less if I can find it on sale somewhere (I'll be keeping an eye out but not holding my breath - double strollers don't seem to go on sale as regularly as the singles, presumably since they're in less demand). So my plan is to buy it online, get it shipped to a relative/friend's house after begging them to help me out, and then get it sent here - even if it costs $200 to post overseas (which I think is the max it would come to), it's still a couple of hundred less than the Aussie prices.

So that's the plan...have you made a choice about which one you'll be buying yet?

  • Hey you!

    So funny that you posted this as I meant to post to you on here last night to tell you we (ok, well I) have decided on the Baby Jogger City Elite based on the ton of online research I have also done since we last spoke about doubles(parent's reviews etc)!

    LOL!

    So...not the City Mini but from the same range: http://www.babyjogger.com/city_elite_dbl_dtl.aspx

    We went to check the prams out in person yesterday and, yep, this pram fits all our needs. I saw the City Mini next to it but, because another parent and I were debating the finer points of the City Elite compared to the Mountain Buggy double (lol), I didn't have a closer look at it. Next time I'm there I can have a close look at the City Mini and see if I can take pics with Maya in it etc.

    The fact that both seats recline was the dealbreaker for me too. Even now, Maya often falls asleep whilst in the pram, while I'm out and about around her naptime. It's good because it means that I can go about my day-to-day business and not be restricted to getting her home so she can nap in her bed instead. I also find that she takes a lot longer to fall asleep if she is in the fully upright position because there's too much stimulation going on in front of her.

    When you get the pram, make sure you get the rain cover and a UV sun cover for it too. The UV sun cover especially helps when you're trying to get them to sleep as it darkens the pram.

  • Also, I'm sure the City Mini is the same as the City Elite as far as 'steerability'. The Elite turned on a dime!
  • Ooooh I hadn't thought about the UV cover! I was already planning on the rain cover, but hadn't considered UV - good call!

    This was one of the reasons I picked it! The reviews about steering were sooooo good (I read a lot of bad reviews about other brands only going well if you push them in a straight line lol). I haven't seen it in person though, so if you do, could you give it a spin? Stick out tongue

    I looked at the Elite too, but ultimately the Mini seemed to make more sense based on when and how we'll be using it - what made you decide to go for the Elite?

  • Next time I go in I'll definitely give it a test drive!

    I chose the Elite over the Mini for a couple of small reasons (probably not enought o justify the extra $$$ though lol).

    The tires on the Elite are larger. I find that the smaller the tires, the less shock absorption. The tires on my current pram are fairly large (Swallow, Beema Q, which has proven to be an absolute ROCKSTAR of a pramin the two years I've had it! http://www.productreview.com.au/showitem.php?item_id=36522). I just found that the larger tires make a difference as far as being a smooth ride for the bub...even over rough surfaces.

    It has dual raised kickers, which provide leg support when babies are smaller (they show you on the video).

    The seats fully recline. On the Mini, they almost fully recline but not quite.

    If you haven't seen it, I foudn the demo videos handy http://www.babyjogger.com/demo_videos.aspx

    Like I said, minor differences.

    I'm second guessing myself a little only because the Elite retails for $1200 (eek) here and I wonder if I should go for a cheaper model. Especially considering Maya will be 2.5 years old when this bub is born and I'm not sure how much longer after that Maya will want to be in the pram. I'd give her a year tops.  Plan is, at the moment, to store my current pram at my mums house and, when it's obvious Maya has 'given up the pram' for good, I will Ebay the Elite and go back to using the Beema Q.

    I saw it listed at $500 pick up on Ebay the other day (in Perth though, bah!). Better then a kick in the head, I s'pose.
