photography classes?

I'm currently researching DSLR camera & lenses and I want to take a class after I purchase. Have you taken or heard of any good photography classes in the area?  I live in Dayton but work on the north side of Cincy. Thanks!

Re: photography classes?

  • UC has some online Adult ed classes I think.  Great Oaks might have some classes through their adult ed program.  One of the campuses is in Sharonville.  In Dayton I know that the Rosewood Arts center has classes (part of Kettering Rec Center/Parks district).  Sinclair might have something too.  Even if it's a credit class it will be cheap.

  • I have taken the UC online courses, and I really liked them for the money.  Some of the other online classes are $400+.  Secrets of Better Photography was a great class.

  • I've taken both the UC online Secrets of Better Photography course and a photography course through Great Oaks at Scarlet Oaks.  The courses were very different, so I think it depends what you'd like out of a course.  If you'd like some basic tips for taking better photos with any type of camera, the UC online course might be a good place to start.  If you'd like to learn how to take photos with a DSLR camera on the manual setting, definitely go with the Scarlet Oaks course.  They offer a couple photography courses.  The one you want is Photography I and requires a DSLR camera.  Some of their other photography courses sounded more basic.
  • I'm planning on taking the Great Oaks Photography I class that starts at the end of the month. I just got my DSLR and it's been a lot of fun figuring it all out so far!

FWIW, I bought mine refurbished from adorama.com for about 25% off retail. I would definitely recommend checking it out!

  • I got a refurbished lens at Adorama.  Even their new stuff is a bit cheaper than most local stores.  I really like them!

  • Thanks for the recs! I have been looking at adorama & also bhphotovideo.com.  I have my eye on a $700 factory refurbished Canon D40 at that site :)
