Local Oahu ladies, please come in!
Hey girls,
Quick question for you... MIL and FIL are heading to Oahu tomorrow for 3 weeks and I am incredibly jealous
But my question is that it's MIL's birthday in a couple of weeks and I just thought it would be cool to send her a little something to their hotel in Waikiki... any ideas on what to send? Flowers for one but I think that might be silly considering all of the beauty that is Hawaii in the first place
Anything else that you think might work? She's just finished her treatments for breast cancer and it would be neat to surprise her with something.
TIA

I love Hawaii!

You could send an edible arrangement. They create really cute flower-like bouquets out of fresh fruit, and you can even include chocolate covered strawberries. They even have one for "breast cancer awareness." You don't have to immediately refrigerate it, but maybe a smaller one would be best considering their circumstances. Delivery is available. Very sweet of you to do this!

Just wanted to tell you Tara that you are such a thoughtful DIL. She is so lucky to have you! I don't know if anyone else suggested this but I was just thinking that no matter where I was, if I had just finished treatments, I would really like to be at the spa getting pampered!! Just a thought......

Thanks for the ideas.. wow, I had no idea Edible Arrangments had so many different selections
Sarah, you know you can butt in any time... you weren't butting in anyway
I agree, the spa would be so nice but... I don't know if MIL would like a facial, pedicure... or ?? I'm sure either/or would be nice.

Call the concierge at their hotel and arrange to have something sent up to their room....maybe breakfast in bed (the hotel can give them a nice card from you) or a sweet plate w/a bottle of champagne?
You could also gift them some sort of experience like a dinner cruise. Star of Honolulu is a popular one.
The concierge can help you with ideas too. Good luck!
Hey Tara! I'm not sure what type of treatments your MIL has gone through, but I would give her something that would make her comfortable. I remember when my grandma went through her breast cancer treatments...she really wasn't keen on being physically pampered (massage, mani/pedi-type stuff--I also have aversions to certain types of physical contact, which is why I opted for eyebrow waxing instead of a pedi when my MIL gave me a GC for my birthday last year). Just something to keep in mind. Maybe she'd enjoy a private dinner at a nice restaurant. I also love the idea of breakfast in bed at the hotel.
I wonder if there's a way you could get them a hotel room upgrade--oceanview if they don't currently have one?).
I think she'll appreciate anything you give her. You're such a loving daughter-in-law.
Hey! Thanks for the advice and comments, Nicole (and PP's too!
)
I couldn't agree with you more. I would know exactly what to get my Mom but with MIL, I'm not so sure. A pedicure, hmm? Facial? Or a massage??? It's really iffy. Also, they are staying in a condo so I'm not even sure if they have a concierge and there is no spa at the hotel.
I was actually looking at Etsy and found a beautiful shoulder bag that I think she would like (for travel, etc.) Perhaps I could have it shipped to their hotel and she'll receive it in Hawaii? That might work

I think this is a great idea! A totally unexpected surprise gift...and it's something practical she can use, not only while on vacation, but when she gets back home, too!
