Stuck in Dayton

Hey everyone. I have been coming to thenest.com for awhile but never got on the boards until now. My husband and I were born and raised in Dayton... his family traveled alot when he was young, and I moved around alot in my late teens/early 20's... so being stuck here is hard, but its where my husband has a good job and we have a mortgage here. We also have a 15 month old son, and I am 30 weeks pregnant with another boy on the way.. it is very hard being stuck in this area, especially with being pregnant and sick 90% of the time. I am always looking to make new friends, so if you live around the area it would be wonderful to get to know you! Or even if you aren't... friends are always good! Big Smile

Re: Stuck in Dayton

  • I consider myself "stuck" ha ha. I grew up in Beavercreek, moved to Cincy for 5 + years, now I'm back...north of Dayton due to DH's job. We are finally settling in, and adjusting to living away from the city.

I love meeting new people! My name is Missy, nice to "meet" you!

  • So glad I am not the only one! I grew up in Bellbrook, husband in Enon. I've lived in Knoxville, Tn, Tampa Florida, Cleveland Ohio.. and traveled to numerous cities before I ended up back in Dayton and met my husband. Being "settled" is hard for me.. but I am noticing the more I am here the harder it is to leave (I think because its not just me, but a whole family). But we live in urban Dayton now (near MVH) and outside of the hick like neighbors, its nice knowing we live close to the city... although my husband would like to have more land.

Anyway... Missy its nice to meet you! Smile

  • You should definitely check out the Cincy Baby board as well, there are quite a few girls from the Dayton area on there.  Here's the link!

  • Ha-ha!  We live just past the Oregon District & dh's biggest issue is the neighbors!  I just keep telling myself that East Dayton is way better than West!  Too bad we didn't go south into Oakwood Sad  We both grew up in Cincy but DH's experience was a polar opposite of our current one.

  • You actually live pretty close to where I live! Well I have noticed East Dayton is a mixture of young couples who are professionals and also on the artsy side... and then the negative is the types of neighbors who sit on thier front pourch with a beer in hand, stains on a nasty shirt sitting in a couch that belongs inside... or actually a junk yard because its nasty looking but they put it there for the purpose of sitting on the pourch. If more young couples could move into this area it would be SOOO much better! However there is too much of a negative mindset when you live in the city of Dayton. If we could have better neighbors, that would make a huge difference I think.
  • We live in Dayton but in the suburbs.  I am not from this area at all but DH is. I do love living here but I would like to be closer to family & friends.

  • We just moved here a few months ago and just bought a house in Fairborn.  So far, we're really liking it.  :)  I'm always looking to meet new people too, so feel free to look me up if you need anything!

  • I've lived in Fairborn for the last 4 years. DH is a firefighter, and transferring his certifications would be a pain, so I think we're stuck in Dayton till he retires in 22 years or so. Congrats on the house, Mrs.Jacinthe! It's a pretty decent community, although we would like to move somewhere with better schools once we have kids.

  • I am now in Franklin, Middletown area I lived in Cincy-Clifton area and West Chester for the past 10 years before that my family lived in Florida...So I hear ya...things here are a lil differnt and a lot slower then I am used to.  Most of my close friends now have moved away so I know what it is like to feel like you are "alone"  Its hard to find good "girl" friends.  I love my DH to death but miss girl time!  I am also new to the Nest...I had been on the Knot but never really posted much.  Everyone seems super nice so I thought I was say hi! Big Smile
  • Hey! So sorry to hear that you feel stuck here in Dayton! I actually love it here!
I am originally from eastern Ohio / western PA area, but went to college in western Ohio. I moved here to be near my old college roommates, and met my husband who is from Middletown. We now live in Springboro, a 'burb of Dayton.

I find that it's always hard to find and foster adult 'girl' relationships, especially when you move to a new town. FI is my best friend!!! It's definitely weird not meeting all that many new people, but I guess that's why we're all on the Nest so much!

Good luck in meeting people, Cinci Nesties are pretty nice, as well as us awesome Dayton Nesties....!
