Being forced off work early :(

So the manager of HR emailed me about my leave today.  I knew I had a lot of vacation and sick time, but had no idea it was at almost 7 weeks.

Our policy says that I can only carry forward 10 days (which would be tacked on to the end of my mat leave).  So unless they approve my special request, to carry forward the rest of my vacation time, it looks like I'll be forced on "vacation" and sick time as of around Nov 25 :(

I'm seriously bummed about this, especially since I was hoping to be able to work from Dec 1 (when bed rest restrictions should be lifted) up until the holiday break.

Fingers crossed the CEO thinks I'm valuable enough to let me stay on for a few more weeks and tack this time onto the end of my leave.

Re: Being forced off work early :(

  • That sucks! Hopefully they'll be able to work with your special exception! I hope with all that you have done for them - working now instead of taking leave which you could have - that they will recognize your efforts.
  • I get them having to force vacation time, but how can they force sick time???

I hope you get the special consideration you want, and that you are given the okay from the docs to go back to work around the 1st! I'm sure it will be nice for you to get out and be able to interact with adults on a regular basis for a few weeks before your little one makes his appearance.

  • OMG that sucks - they can't force you to take sick time, can they? Or is it because you are working from home they'd like to get rid of the sick days?

Hugs - hopefully the CEO will come through and support you on this

  • Boo!  That is definitely less than ideal.  :(   I hope you can work it out.

I guess technically they can't force me to take sick time, but if I don't use it, I won't be able to carry it forward or at least not all of it.

My request has been sent.  Considering my coworker took 8 weeks off before her EDD, was off at least once a week due to her "difficult" pregnancy, and royally screwed us on the projects she was working on, I hope they'll reward my good attendance and work ethic.

  • If you need a bright side I guess it could be that flu season has started and at least if you're at home you reduce your contact with people who might be getting sick but refuse to stay home.

Fingers crossed you get the approval to carry days forward.
