Random: re Aunt

How do you pronounce the word aunt?

Do you pronounce it like ant or do you pronounce it the other way?

(I pronounce it the other way but I can't figure out how to best describe the other way)....

Re: Random: re Aunt

  • My family says ant.  Of course, I hate that, so I say it like "Auntie Paula" (aw - like awning, aw-nt-ee).

  • I say it the other way like (awnt)

  • I actually say it both ways. In my family we say "ant" and in MH's family we saw "awnt" or "awntie".

Just like pop and soda it depends on what part of the country you live in!

  • I say it like ant!
  • I've always said ANT but now that I'm running my mouth today I've heard three people at work call me "aw-ntie" Val.  It sounds weird.  I don't like it.

I think I'm going to have my sister's kid call me something else.  Like "Super Cool Val."

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

My sisters kids dont' call me Auntie Mandy or Aunt anything.  They call me Mimi.  Yes, I know that's another name some kids call their grandmas but the kids were at a disadvantage - they had two aunts that go by mandy.  So the oldest nicknamed me Mimi.

Val, you'll probably be surprised what the kid will call you.  we didn't know who the heck Mimi was for about 4 months until my sis's kid pointed to my car and said "mimi here!"

  • The kids are getting to that age that they now just call me Paula, for the most part.  Sad

    It's sad.

  • We say ant also.
