Yup, that's my brand new, only 3 months old, only has 3K miles on it, only made 2 payments Mazda sans rear bumper. What a way to start out the morning. I'm ok, just banged up and sore and really pissed off. Crying

Re: Car Wreck

  • I can't see the picture but I'm so sorry to hear that! What happened?
  • Someone rear-ended me today and pushed me into the car in front of me. The entire rear bumper, door and window are effed up. They couldn't even get my bumper off of the other guy's front bumper so they towed his car away with my bumper still attached.

  • Oh how horrible! So sorry.

  • Oh, I am so sorry to hear that! That looks pretty rough and you will for sure be sore. I had my car for 2 months and 2 days when I hit a deer and ran off the road and did $6,800 dollars worth of damage.  It was only a few hundred off from being totaled.

Will you be going to work or anything tomorrow?

  • I guess this is one of the few times that being unemployed helps, since I don't have to worry about going to work. The only thing I'm doing tomorrow is going to pick up the Rx that the Urgent Care dr. wrote for me today. Since my dad (retired police officer) was in the car with me when the accident happened, he helped me handle everything and the insurance claim has already been filed, I've got a rental car and we were both seen by a Dr. to be checked out. Now it's just the hassle of either getting the car fixed or figuring out what to do if its totaled. I'm just so ill about the whole thing. And OF COURSE the driver who hit me has a revoked license so I'm praying the insurance company doesn't balk on paying out. UGH.

  • Oh, girl that SUCKS.   I remember when you got that car.  You're the first person I heard about who got cash for a clunker!

I have been in more accidents than I care to admit.  A consequence of living in Los Angeles and it is a small comfort that the vast majority have been not my fault (and the one that was was only my fault legally, not morally, I say).  I am wishing you excellent insurance results and quick body repairs!

  • Oh no, I am so sorry KB! At least you all weren't hurt. Good luck getting it all sorted out quickly!
  • Not sure what insurance you have but if you don't hear anything from them (a claim number or anything) by the end of the week call them back.  When I worked for State Farm we had the claim number within two hours and that was what was needed for any other contact about the claim made.
  • Since the car behind you pushed you into the car in front of you...will you be responsible for the car in front of you?

That is something I've always wondered about...because it doesn't seem like it should be your fault, but H and I had this conversation a few weeks back and he said you are responsible if you're close enough to hit the car in front of you (but that doesn't seem to make sense to me).

So sorry this happened to you but glad you and your dad are ok!!

  • Oh my goodness - that's awful! I would imagine that even if the guy has a revoked license insurance will take care of it (although that guy is screwed and it's not surprising his license was revoked).

Good luck getting it all taken care of and feel better. It totally sucks but at least you're both OK.

  • KB - I'm sorry - that really sucks.  I've been there too and dealing with the insurance and car wrecks is the worst.  Glad you are ok!

I think this depends on the state but in most cases, I think your H is right.  In the instance where you rear end someone, you are almost always responsible because they will say you were following too closely.  This can be true, even if someone pulls out in front of you which I never understood.

  • Yeah it is wild to me...because let's say you're stopped at a traffic light and leave even a full car length between you and the car in front of you...if someone hits you going 45 mph or faster...you're still probably going to hit the car in front of you...and that's a ridiculous amount of space to leave!
  • Ugh, I'm so sore this morning! I don't know if I'll be "responsible" for the car in front of me or not. They had minor paint damage and that was all. The car that hit me pushed me about 6-10 ft into them so I don't think anyone could say that I was too close. It's just that the guy behind me never slowed down. There's a little hill there and I was unfortunately sitting on it, as he crested the hill, there I was (traffic was backed up much farther than usual that morning) and there was no way his 97 4Runner was going to stop in time.

  • So sorry to hear of your accident.

Maybe a nice hot bath will make you feel better?  Dog

  • So sorry to hear about this KB. Hopefully you'll feel better soon and I hope insurance gets taken care of quickly. Glad you and your dad are all right.

  • Sorry you have to deal with this.

I would be shocked if you are responsible for the car in front of you.  I was in the same situation (hit from behind at 35mph while I was at a dead stop, pushed into the car in front of me) a few years ago and because the driver in front of me confirmed that he felt one impact, I was not responsible for any of it.

As far as the other driver not having a license, depending on your ins. if you have full coverage, your ins. will pay for it then go after the other driver for the amount.  Mine has had to do this a couple of times because I've been hit so many times.

  • sorry about the accident and your car, what a bummer. I'm glad you and your dad are okay, I hope everything gets covered by the other guys insurance.

  • KB - I'm glad you're okay!! Motrin and ice packs do wonders for soreness. I hope you start to feel better. This sounds like an unfortunate situation all around. Hopefully your city deems it necessary to put some sort of warning sign at the top of that hill. Based on what you said, I bet this isn't the first (or last) time someone's been in an accident there because of the same thing. I hope everything works out for you with the insurance. Keep us posted!
  • I was in a wreck about a month ago and was extremely sore.  My advice is to go see the Chiropractor...He helped me TONS!!  Even if you don't realize it now you might have whiplash that will effect you later.  And more than likely your auto insurance will cover it.
  • Sad

That sucks.  I'm glad your dad was with you, makes it less scary.  Hope you're feeling better...poor brand new car.

  • Thanks for all the support ladies. I met with the injury adjuster today and they're taking care of all my medical bills and are giving me some compensation for all of the inconvenience as well. He's also taking care of my rental car. The auto adjuster hasn't made the call on whether or not my car is fixable or is totaled yet but the auto body guy seemed to think it was fixable, which is what I'm hoping for. I might consider the chiropractor since my neck is indeed really sore and stiff. But overall, things seem to be working themselves out okay. Fingers still crossed that the car is declared fixable!

  • I'm so sorry you've had to deal with this!! I'm glad you're okay and that's awesome that you got some extra compensation for all the trouble it caused.
