Baby Showers: Themes?

Anyone have ideas for a baby shower theme?

My sister is 4 mos. prego and I'm already getting excited for the shower that I'm planning for her early next year! I guess you can call me an early planner =D

I wanted to do something cute and classy. Not too kiddish...hmm...there are so many ideas out there that I can't seem to narrow anything down! Ideas, anyone??

Re: Baby Showers: Themes?

  • Are you looking for just a color theme (which is probably the most classic thing, if that's what you're going for) or a theme theme (like storks or Sesame Street or something [but not so kiddish])?
  • Probably more of a color theme...not so much storks or anything...

  • I saw a gooooooorgeous one on...I want to say Spearmint Baby...that was yellow themed. It was stunning! Let me see if I can find the link.

P.S. Do you know if she's planning to find out the sex? Will she want blue/pink or not so much?

  • mine last weekend didn't have a theme.  It was at the country club so they provided the linens so they did white tablecloths with pastel color napkins.

One idea I loved -  Rather than spend money on floral arrangements as originally planned they purchased a lot of the "small" items off my registry and wrapped them with cute baby paper and solid pastel paper in various size boxes and then made present towers.  (A couple of the tables had door prizes - they didn't have any games - so not all the tables were gifts for me).

I really liked how one of Malia's had a book theme - everyone was suppose to bring a book for the baby.

  • Hehe, sorry, i should probably provide a little more info. Great information so far tho!!

Sis/BIL are still debating on finding out the sex of the baby. I am TRYING to twist my sister's arm b/c I want to know!! hehehe ^_^

So, i guess for now, i'm looking at something more gender neutral.

Aha! It wasn't a shower, it was a gender reveal party (I think maybe someone here posted it? Or maybe on one of the baby boards): clicky here for larger photos and here for the original blog post.

Spearmint Baby does have a lot of cute inspiration pics though. Smile

  • Super cute! Thx Lisa!!
  • I LOVED that gender reveal party idea....it was so cute!  And even if you didn't want to do it as a gender reveal, I think you could still get some ideas from it.

Ooooh! One huge trend I just read about is that they do the big gender reveal AT the shower!

They ask the dr to check and not tell them. Close their eyes or something. Then authorize the dr to tell you. Then you either decorate in that color and everyone finds out when they arrive...

Or you bring out a cake that says... It's a... Or everyone gets cupcakes and  one of them has a plastic pink or blue doll in it... So many ways to do the reveal!

And the invitations all invite people to come find out what they're having! Don't be late or miss the party!

  • Or, do they have a nickname that they use for the baby? Like we used to call ours "Lima Bean" ... So my friend used that as the theme of my shower. My girlfriend used to call theirs "Blueberry" and another friend called theirs "Popcorn" so their shower invites were popcorn containers...

  • http://www.hostesswiththemostess.com/themes/baby_showers has some cute, sophisticated baby shower ideas.

I think starting with a color palette is the way to go unless you know for sure that your sister is into something specific (like Malia's Lima Bean).  Then you can tie it altogether that way.

I personally love "Book Showers" where each guest is asked to bring a copy of their favorite childhood book.  These can be new or gently used.  It's a great way to start a library for the baby and also a nice ice breaker...gets folks talking about their favs and why, etc.
