We used to do this all the time! ![]()
Back then, we were broke and we couldn't justify spending so much on one activity. But, we would buy candy and drinks to make up for the ticket price. We figured the theater makes the most profit on snacks and sodas, so that's how we tried to rationalize it. I'm sure they would be understanding if we explained it like that, right?
Either way, we don't do it anymore because I started getting tired of spending my whole day sitting in the dark!
Once we almost got caught - one of the ushers was hanging out at the end of the hall a little longer than necessary, and we were pretty sure he was watching us to see if we went back into another theater. We pretended to be waiting for someone (checking our watches, looking into the lobby a lot) until he went away.

Re: **adpilove** re: movie hopping
We did this when I was a teen. I think my record was 6 movies.
I don't see how anyone can do it now, though? Well, at least in the theaters I went to when I used to live in SoCal (and the one here operates the same way) - there are bottleneck checkpoint for tickets, the individual theaters and hallways are cleared before they let the next group in, and the bathrooms are located outside of the ticketed area. There's not really any way to hide or wait.
Oh believe me Lisa, it gets done!!
But it can only happen if both of the movies are on the same side of the building, if that makes sense. Most theaters have two sides for movies and if the 2nd movie is on the other side, forget it. For some reason, we've just gotten "lucky".
When we've done it, its usually where MH picks a movie and then I pick one. How cute are we.......we're thieves!!
And there are multiple bathrooms all over the theater so that's not a problem.
Unfortunately, we haven't done it in quite some time. Like you said, we just don't want to devote 4 hours to the theater, minimum. Both movies have to be really needed to see!
Ohio must not be quite up to SoCal/Oz standards!
It used to be pretty easy for us... we lived on the OSU campus at the time, and the theater was large (24-plex) and always teeming with college students. They only double-checked tickets for big new releases (like Lord of the Rings), otherwise they just tore your ticket as you entered the building and let you roam free. Plus, the parking lot was so massive that it was common to park on one side, end up in a theater on the other end, and have to walk back through to get to your car.
I would also try to alter my appearance slightly to make us less recognizable. Carry a jacket in, then put the jacket on between movies. Wear my hair up, then take it down, etc.
I realize I'm a huge, thieving nerd.
I may have done this too.
And uh, ditto to being a huge, thieving nerd.
