Doctor Question

I just moved to this area and cannot locate one single doctor that has evening or weekend appointment in the following fields...dermatology, allergy or general medicine.  Is this the norm or I am not looking hard enough?

This is absurdely stange to me as in MD almost every doctor had at least one "late day" per week where they were open until 7pm.  If not then they were open two Saturdays per month until like noon or two or something like that.

Is that why there seems to be an urgent care center on every block here in Dallas?  In Baltimore in the 9 yrs I lived there they were only 2 urgent care centers in the entire city and they were only for Kaiser HMO patients.

 Please help!

Re: Doctor Question

  • None of my doctors have evening or weekend hours.  I've heard of some that do, but I don't think it's very common.
  • I worked in healthcare management for 7 years and I have never heard of a specialist offering weekend or evening appointments in the DFW area.  You should be able to find a family practice that does though.  MaxHealth in Flower Mound is one.

  • DH and I go to this one for General Medicine or "Family Doctor"  they have an aesthetic center too.  They offer evening hours and weekend in the Carrolton office only.  I've never been to the Carrolton office, just the Plano and have only great things to say about it.  It's been my experience that they can usually even get you in the same day if your feeling bad.

  • My doctor's practice has Saturday hours, but they rotate who works Saturdays.  (So if you need to go in at the last minute, you may not be seeing your GP.)  It is located in Medical City.

Sorry I can't give any advice on dermatologists or allergists!

  • I go to one of the docs with Family Healthcare Associates. They have offices all over the metroplex and they have after hours clinics which have evening hours and hours on both Sat and Sunday. I absolutely love them and would definitely recommend checking them out.
