Dressing up for Hallowe'en?
DH's friend is having a H party and it's also DH's b-day party since his b-day is on the 27th. Costumes are mandatory. I'm clueless. Stuff I have on hand are:
black wings
white wings
purple wings
poodle skirt
I don't know why we have so many pairs of wings. Anyway, what are you dressing up as? Any ideas what I can do with the stuff I have on hand, or any easy costumes to make? What was your best costume to date?
DH wants to go as a Star Trek character.
Re: Dressing up for Hallowe'en?
I'm from New Orleans, so have been through a few Halloween and Mardi Gras costuming events. Here are our rules for a good costume:
- Easy to drink (masks beyond the eyes are a no-no)
- Easy to pee (who wants to be climbing out of a costume in the bathroom?)
- Won't bump others (small wings okay... big wings or weird props are a no)
If your H wants to be a Star Trek character, you should too. C'mon, it's his birthday!

Here is my quandary. I'm a photographer for Voodoo Fest http://www.thevoodooexperience.com/2009/lineup.php
So, in addition to the above rules, I need something that won't expose delicate areas if I need to squat, lay down, jump over, bend over or flip across the stage to get a good shot. Plus, it should have some sort of unique factor.

I LOVE Halloween!!! MH's family loves Halloween too, and every year is a certain theme... 3 years ago we all dressed up as pirates... 2 years ago we did "famous couples," so MH and I teamed up with his Gma and went as the 3 blind mice. Last year was a disco theme (that was really easy, you could do that one)
This year is a circus theme... I think I may try for a lion tamer or something along those lines... not sure yet
Star Trek might be fun, but you have to go all out to get the real effect, I think...

Best costume was the year I was Katherine McPhee and DH was Taylor Hicks... I got a long wig and wore a gold dress and DH wore jeans and a regular guy plaid shirt and we carried American Idol mics. At the first party, no one got it. At the 2nd party, everyone got it and loved it! The first party was clearly with lame people and not enough alcohol.

This year I'm dressing as Alice In Wonderland, and trying to convince J to be the Mad Hatter (because I already own a top hat). We'll see how that works out!
If you have white wings... one year my friend was an angel, but sort of an urban angel, I guess you could call it! She wore a sparkly white/silver top, dark jeans, and silver heels. She did her makeup to be very light and shimmery. The she topped it off with wings to make it obvious (but no halo). It wasn't a traditional take on it, but I thought she looked amazing! I wish I had pictures, I'd post them for you.
I also like PP's butterfly idea, if you could get a great dress or tunic/leggings to match those purple wings! You could have a lot of fun with color and makeup for that costume.
