Siblings Poll

The last few days have got me thinking about how often people speak with their siblings, whether you live in the same city or different cities. Lately I've just been thinking a lot about my family & friends and how being in a different city than everyone can really suck sometimes. I have been feeling really disconnected. So...a little poll for this Friday morning:

  1. How many siblings do you have?
  2. Do you live in the same city as them?
  3. How often do you talk on the phone, or get together?
  4. Do they have kids? If so, are you close with your niece(s)/nephew(s) and do they make the effort to keep you involved?

    .
    1.  1 full brother, 2 step brothers, and 2 step sisters (one from my dad, and one from my mom).  Oh, and one BIL and one SIL
    2. No currently.  As of Dec 1 I'll be in the same (mega)city as the full time residence of brother, step brothers and one step-sis. (all but one step bro are off at college/university)
    3. I talk to my actual bro the most.  He lived with us last summer and he and the hubs got really close, calling each other BFFs and all.  I e-mail/text with him a few times a week, phone talk once ever few weeks.  Generally I see some part of the sibling contingent once a month or so when we're visiting with my parents.
    4. My step sis on my dad's side is the only one with a kid (4 m/o boy, so cute) and we've seen them a bit more lately.  What with going to visit when little Lucas was born, seeing them at our rehearsal dinner and the wedding, then going to help them put up siding on their new garage (that was a 12 hour adventure).  But we still see them less than the other siblings.

  • I have three sisters. We do live in the same city. One of my sisters calls me about once a week just to chat, and I see all of them (at the same time) at least once a week, sometimes more. They don't have kids (they are kids) but I will definitely make the effort to be close to my nieces/nephews whenever they appear (you know, 10+ years from now...). I want my kids to be close to them because I think they'll be positive role models for my kids- my sisters will be young enough to be "cool" in the eyes of my kids but still be old enough to set a good example, I think.

On the flip side of that, I'll probably be the old fart to their kids- nearly as old as their grandparents! lol.

    1. How many siblings do you have? 2 - a bro and a sis
    2. Do you live in the same city as them? Yes
    3. How often do you talk on the phone, or get together? My sis and I speak a few times a week, we usually don't spend alot of time just she and I. I do not speak to my bro at all, for about 3 years now.
    4. Do they have kids? If so, are you close with your niece(s)/nephew(s) and do they make the effort to keep you involved? My sis has 2 boys and we see them alot. We are really involved in their activities, and have them over often. Even when my sis and I were on the outs, she never kept the kids from me, and is really grateful for the role we play in their lives. My bro doesn't have any kids.

    1. One - a brother

    2. Nope. We live about an hour away from each other

    3. When his gf broke up with him, we spoke almost daily - either phone, FB or text messaging. Now that's she's back on the scene, he doesn't "need" my attention so much. Sad, really. He was really into DD's life for those months and now has disappeared bc his gf is his whole damn existence. *shakes head*

    4. No. I'm the one with the kid. And he used to make a super effort, driving down once a week and playing with her and staying here for dinner. We really bonded well and I was loving having him so involved in our family life (he's a bit of a homebody, so he tends to be more on the quiet/not sharing side). But, like I said, now that he's back together with gf, he hasn't made a single effort to visit my daughter. Booooo Uncle.. Booooo

  • 1. How many siblings do you have? one brother (3 years younger)
    2. Do you live in the same city as them? now we do, he relocated nearby in June

    4. Do they have kids? If so, are you close with your niece(s)/nephew(s) and do they make the effort to keep you involved? No kids!

    1. How many siblings do you have? 2 sisters, 1 older, 1 younger

    2. Do you live in the same city as them? Nope, different cities and one in another province

    3. How often do you talk on the phone, or get together? We talk on the phone at least once a day, often 2 or 3 times a day as well as sending multiple emails.  My older sister and I see each other usually once or twice a month, younger is more like once every two months.  But since I've been on bed rest, my older sister has visited me almost weekly.

    4. Do they have kids? If so, are you close with your niece(s)/nephew(s) and do they make the effort to keep you involved?  Nope, mine will be the first.  We're very close with Dave's nieces though.  I wouldn't say SIL makes an effort to keep us involved, but we make the effort and it works.

    2. Do you live in the same city as them? yes, we live in the same townhouse complex
    3. How often do you talk on the phone, or get together? my middle sister I talk to at least once a week, see a couple times a week in passing. My youngest sister I very rarely talk to and only see in passing a couple times a month.
    4. Do they have kids? If so, are you close with your niece(s)/nephew(s) and do they make the effort to keep you involved? My middle sister has a soon-to-be-step-daughter, she's 9, and she comes over to do scrapbooking, play with my Wii. We "babysit" sometimes when they have plans and she wants to stay home.

    1. I have 2 siblings (1 older 1 younger)

    2. I guess you can say yes, they are in the west end and I am in the east end.

    3. My younger bro is only 15 so when I see my parents I get to see him, usually once every couple of weeks. As for my older bro, we don't see each other as much because he has such a busy schedule.

     4. No kids for my older brother yet. Hopefully soon.
