Who else has started?
I decided that this year I would start my shopping now, since I always kick myself for not having enough money saved up closer to Christmas.
I am finding it's so much easier to buy one or two things each paycheck for DH and SIL (since she's living with us still) now. The only hard part is hiding them! DH's stuff is under SIL's bed and SIL's stuff is in the bottom drawer of my nightstand! lol
For DH's BIG gift, I'm going to start buying Bass Pro gift cards in $50 or $100 denominations now each paycheck and then this way when it comes time to buy it, I've got the "$" put aside, but it's not in cash format so I won't spend it.
Anyone else doing this?
Re: Christmas Shopping
i have bought a few gifts so far, but nothing major. we opened a christmas club account and that money will get transferred to our checking account oct. 15 - then i'll really start my shopping!
great idea about the gift cards though!
Ugh, thanks for reminding me! During the summer I told DH we should do all of our Christmas shopping in October since life will be crazy after Thanksgiving for us at first! I feel so busy as it is now with final preparations though, I may have to resort to mainly doing online shopping this year.
Thanks for bringing it up, my mind has only been on baby mode!
That is a great idea with the gift cards!
I have only started with little things - mostly stocking stuffers for my sisters. For some reason, this is something I always wind up spending way too much money on, so I thought I'd start early and make it a little less painful. I think it's because I wind up buying them lots of little things that I would want myself!
I haven't even thought about christmas shopping. I am still stuck on birthday gifts for everyone. Their birthdays are before christmas.
The gift card idea is a great idea!
I haven't even started to think about Christmas yet, I really should it's coming up so soon. DH and I did talk a little that we were going to scale back a little for everyone this year, but we haven't talked about what to get anyone.
I love the gift card idea, I may have to start doing that for next year starting in the summer so I'll have it saved up.
I love the idea of the gift cards...I'm stealing your idea! hehe
I did start too...I bought my parents a photobook from our wedding pictures and a few other smaller gifts. My step-mom and I this year decided that we would make each other a gift instead of buying something...so I'm in the process of making a blanket for her from DH and I.
We talked about it the other week what we might get family members, but thats as far as it got. Probably just get gift cards this year for his parents and sister, and my aunt/uncle and grandparents. And then I usually get something for 1 or 2 of my closest girlfriends and thats it.... trying to watch how much we spend this year since we spent a lot remodeling the house and on the wedding.. just trying to watch our spending so we can pay off some bills. DH doesnt want to do anything for each other this year for Christmas.... (we didnt last year because of the house and wedding), but I told him I wanted to this year it being our first married Christmas. I wanted to get Christmas pictures done together, so that might be part of a gift for each other, and then I wanted to get him 1 or 2 items.. so we'll see how it goes. Probably wont start shopping or getting things until after Thanksgiving though.
I'm trying really hard to get things done way in advance this year, and it's going okay. I have all the fabric to make gifts for my MIL, SIL, niece, mom, and sister. My mom's gift is over halfway done, and the bags for MIL, SIL, and my niece shouldn't take long at all.
We also know what we're getting my BIL, just haven't ordered it. Not sure on what my FIL and SIL's husband are getting yet, but DH has 10 days to figure it out before I shake him and offer some sort of unrealistic ultimatum. He's already five days past our first mutual deadline of needing ideas.

It's so easy for me to just grab the Gift Cards while I'm at the grocery store, so it makes it pretty sweet come Christmas time when I've got a crapload of giftcards to spend and no cash. lol Plus, if a needed birthday gift pops up unexpectedly, I'm golden.
I've gotten the ornaments and some little things, but I'm going to be cracking down here shortly!
I've been debating what to get my parents - but the digital frame sounds like a good idea! My ILs... now that's another story! They're impossible!
