Re: I need something cheery to think about, so POLL: THANKSGIVING

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year? I'm not sure yet.  Usually we go to see DH's mom in AZ around Thanksgiving, but she's not big on holidays so we might avoid traveling on/around the holiday and see her a week early or late.  We'll see.  If we do that, we'll have Thanksgiving with my whole extended family (17 people or so).

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? This is a tough question--I love having so many different things to eat!  And we don't always make traditional Thanksgiving food; my family is full of pretty amazing cooks so they just make whatever they feel like.  The surprise is half the fun :)

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday? Just having my whole family get together for it.  The last few years we've celebrated with DH's mom, which I don't mind doing at all but sometimes I do miss doing the holiday with my side of the family.

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales? Depends on whether we're here or in AZ.  If we're here I will probably try to do some shopping.

Favorite Thanksgiving memory? When my cousin's son was just a toddler he was fascinated with my aunt's glass of wine and we have a funny picture of her pretend giving him a sip out of her wine glass--he looks so eager to down it!

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year? Not sure yet.. most likely we will be eating dinner with DH's side of the family, then dessert at my parents' and just hanging out there for the rest of the day. We like to go to his side first and my side last for holidays, since his side is 20-30 minutes away, depending on where we go, vs a 3 minute drive home from my parents' house at the end of the day haha.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? That would be a big ol bite of turkey, mashed potatoes, and corn all in one. Big Smile

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday? Hmm... Not really actually. Just the typical traditions of the holiday itself, and spending them with our family.

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales? I actually might brave them this year. I have never gone before, but I told my friend who has gone a bunch that I might go with her, if she holds my hand Stick out tongue

Favorite Thanksgiving memory? Nothing specific here either.. I just love Thanksgiving for the food and the family time Smile

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year? This year we'll be going to MIL's house.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? Stuffing!

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday? Don't really have any traditions in place.

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales? Not sure; probably not on Black Friday. Only if there are Christmas gifts I already know I need.

Favorite Thanksgiving memory? Umm, not sure.

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year? Thanksgiving dinner at my parents house

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? I love the sweet potatoes & spinach & artichoke stuffing....

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday? Help cook? No huge traditions for my family.

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales? Absolutely not. Never have been, don't plan to start. I usually have to work (unclear if I have to work this year, we were just sent an email about time off... have to figure that out)

Favorite Thanksgiving memory? One year, oh maybe 1989??... there was a pretty bad snow storm and I drove down with my dad to pick up my grandparents.

  • * my DH and I have not worked out our Thanksgiving deal yet * This is the only holiday we share. His family celebrates Christmas so we are there with them, we do Chanukah & the high holy days and passover, but we are stuck with this holiday.

Only reasonable argument I have is that we live closer/ work closer to my family and I usually have to work the next day... (... and I like my thanksgiving meal better!)...

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year? Down to CT- we'll probably have an early lunch at my mom's then go to my uncle's on my dad's side for dinner. This will be the first year we don't have to do a ton of running around to 4 different houses (which is sad b/c it's due to MILs passing, but a relief to not be running around so much).

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? My mom's baked stuffed potatoes- they have cheese, bacon, onions, and sour cream. And my aunt's crab dip. YUM!

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday? Before I met DH we used to take my family dog up to the blessing of the animals in the town center. Haven't done it in years because of how busy we usually are, but I'm looking forward to trying to bring my pup this year.

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales? Probably not, but we'll see.

Favorite Thanksgiving memory? Last year was really great because my cousin was getting married the Saturday after Thanksgiving and I was dress shopping and planning for my wedding, so it was even more family involved and exciting than usual- we got to see everyone a ton, everyone was in a great mood, just so awesome!

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?

I actually do not know. We are likely staying in Chas this year, I know a few friends have asked us and hinted at perhaps doing a big celebration together here.

    What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?

What isn't? I adore Thanksgiving- but probably a tie between dad's stuffing and MIL's squash.

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday?

Favorite? Football, I guess. But typical?  getting extreme amounts of grief from both sets of parents about who should get us and why.  The holidays are such a huge source of stress since getting married. I prefer my MIL's thanksgiving but prefer Christmas with my family. If I had it my way, this is what we'd do every year, but obviously that isn't good enough for anyone.

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales?

Probably not. I don't really do crowds and I definitely do not do rude, pushy people.

    Favorite Thanksgiving memory?

    I can't say I have one.

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year? Spending it with my family. I beleive my parents are hosting this year.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? I love it all! Espcially all the sides (butternut squash YUM!) and pumpkin pie

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday? I just love spending the day with the entire family and all the delicious food! I like watching the Macy's parade too.

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales? I hide from the stores actually, I hate the crowds. Most of my shopping was done online last year.

Favorite Thanksgiving memory? I can't really pick one, it's definitely a great holiday- food, family, and friends! Lots of great memories :)

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?I really don't know- DH wants to go to PA with his family, since last year they all had the stomach flu so he stayed with me and my family in CT, but now I hear that my extended family has invited us to go with them, for the first time since the early 90's. I'm torn. I wish our families weren't so far apart. And we haven't talked about this since August or so.What's your favorite Thanksgiving food??peanut butter stuffed dates- it's our family tradition. for some unknown reason, we ONLY have them at TG. Grandma makes a big batch, and we devour them as we're getting dinner ready, they're usually gone before we sit down (except for last year, when my aunt bought this weird super "healthy" low-fat, , low calorie, no sugar, full-of-weird-chemicals peanut butter, and they were disgusting)?Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday?fighting over the peanut butter dates.?Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales?for some reason, i've never done this. In college I always worked that day, I guess that's how not shopping started.?Favorite Thanksgiving memory? When I was little and we'd have TG at the house we were married at, we'd have about 40 people, and the table would consist of several long tables put together, stretching from the dining room to the living room. it was fun to have so many people together. Then after dinner, we'd all go out for skeet shooting (this tradition ended before I was old enough to participate)?
  • Hi ladies!  I have not posted here in a while but I'll bite.

What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?

I think we will be hosting the IL's and SIL's family

    What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?

My mom's pumpkin pie.  I am going to attempt to make it myself this year

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday?

Eating my mom's pumpkin pie :)

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales?

No way.  I can't stand big crowds.

    Favorite Thanksgiving memory?

I can't think of one in particular.  My mom always hosted it when I grew up so I really liked having our extended family over to our house.

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year? Probably staying up here and eating with DH's family

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? Mashed potatoes with gravy!!!

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday? Getting up to watch the Macy's parade on TV.  Generally just spending time with family.

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales? probably not.  I prefer to sleep in that day.

Favorite Thanksgiving memory? I got engaged 2 days before Thanksgiving so we spent a good part of the day sharing the news with family.

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?

Probably splitting the holiday with my family and H's.  Every year we do this, and it is actually pretty stressful.  Once we have a baby we plan on staying home for all holidays and then just saying that anyone who wants to come visit us can.

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? Mashed potatoes!

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday? Not really anymore.  When I was a kid my cousins and I would string popcorn and hang it outside on the trees.

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales? no...we usually go cut down a tree on the day after Thanksgiving.  This year we are going to the Bruins game the day after...so probably getting a tree that Saturday

Favorite Thanksgiving memory? Eating chocolate cream pie with my Granddad....every year after dinner my Granddad and I would settle in on the couch and watch White Christmas...then after when all the rest of the family were playing games he and I would sit and eat pie together.  Now he gets really tired so it just doesn't happen anymore, but I loved that special time with him.

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year? Probably just cooking and maybe having SIL and her roomie over

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food? Sweet Potato Casserole

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday? The only 'tradition' I have is going to all of my family's events which usually means I eat at least 3 meals, haha

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales? Nope, I'll be working

Favorite Thanksgiving memory? Just spending time cooking things with my mom and grandma

  • What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?  I believe we're going up to Tewksbury to have dinner with DH's family at his aunt's house

What's your favorite Thanksgiving food?  My mother makes this awesome broccoli and cheese casserole... I live for it every year

Do you have a favorite tradition for the holiday?  Not really... just eating lots of food, and then napping

Are you going to hit the After-Thanksgiving sales?  Sometimes... i don't usually plan on it, but I do love the rush of Black Friday

Favorite Thanksgiving memory?  Just everyone together... my mother used to set up 3 different tables to accomodate everyone... not we all have our different family situations so its not so eay having everyone together at the same time anymore
