-Does low carb really work for quick weight loss??
-How long does it take to see results?
-Do you gain it back (+some) when you go back to 'normal' eating??
?
Re: *mamie*
I did a modified low carb two months from the wedding. Not sure how much I lost, but I saw results within a few days to a week -- or at least "felt" it. You DEFINITELY gain it back when you stop. (I'm going back to cal counting -- which is slower but healthier) But going in I knew I was doing low carb as a crash for the wedding day and would never support it as a lifestyle.
But even two months of it made me view carbs differently. I'm just NOW allowing more carbs into my life again. As a previous carb addict I never thought I could do low carb, but sausage, eggs, nuts, and fruits and veggies got me through.

Jumping in uninvited, but it definitely works fast, but it is not healthy at all. In the short term, sure, if you need to lose weight in a short period of time...but the second you add back a carb after going "cold turkey" - it all comes back.
For a more manageable, long term solution...just limit your carbs...e.g. - if you have a burger, leave off the bun and get a salad instead of fries. When you need to eat bread (e.g. - on a sandwich), eat 100% whole wheat only. Stay away from refined sugars and you'll see a big difference with more of a maintenance potential.
M, she asked about a crash diet on F&B for an event.
You know I much prefer our diet of oreo cookie ice cream.

Thanks for the replies! I have done the no-carb thing before (when I was 22) and have never looked better! Or worse when I started eating normally and gained it all back + some
I was just curious if the ladies on F&B did anything different to look good for a special event, trying to spark conversation per se. The calorie counting is something I've never done before, I bet it would be eye-opening!
Mamie-I did something similar before our wedding too, I lost 7 pounds in 3 weeks.
I definitely know how to lose weight. I feel like I've been on some kind of program or another for my entire life. Especially after losing this baby weight (combined 95 pounds), I know I can do it. Just totally unmotivated to lose these last 7-10 pounds as we discussed last week. M, exactly what you said--I can eat whatever I want and work out minimally and weigh this or kill myself and weigh 10 pounds less. Hmmmm. Just can't get motivated to do that at this point! Although I would like my clothes to fit better. Ugh.?

I just re-read this and can see how it could be taken the wrong way because if you don't know my tone, it could be taken as know-it-all-ish, which I wasn't going for at all. Mames, I asked you specifically if low-carb worked for you and if you gain anything back with it because my best friend swears by low carb and feels really 'guilty' when she does eat carbs and avoids them at all costs. But when I did it, like I said, it worked great but then not so much when I stopped it. Everyone's body reacts differently so I was just wondering what your experience had been.
On theknot, I posted on the GIS board that to lose 10 pounds in a month, the girl should eat dinner early (before 6 p.m.) or sub a salad instead (that's what works best for me to lose weight quickly) and they got so pissed off! But I honestly lost 17 pounds in a month before just by skipping dinner. I literally ate whatever I wanted for lunch, including pizza and desserts. But they didn't like the fact I was promoting 'starvation' LOL, but honestly that works well for me! I was kind of trying to see if anyone else had little tips like that.
Why in the hell am I rambling about this?! Sorry!!?
No worries.
Having done a variety of diets myself, the only thing that ever worked for me was cal counting. Slow, but easy, and the 35 lbs I lost from it since '07 have for the most part stayed off. The low carb crash was just for the wedding! I don't know anyone that can sustain something Atkins-y for so long.
My eating habits are so strange and sometimes my whole day of meals is what someone can eat in ONE meal, but I'm slowly learning to stop relying on lean cuisines and cook meals that are semi-nutritious.

Thanks girl! I think I am going to pay more attention to calories via sparkpeople.
I just caught a snippet of DWTS and Shakira (who was performing) looked freaking amazing! The thinnest I think I've ever seen her. That kind of inspired me actually. Like wow-10 pounds does make a huge difference!!
