Sweetest Day

Who celebrates Sweetest day and how do you celebrate? I am a total cheese and celebrate EVERYTHING!!  DH on the other hand says it's a Hallmark holiday and doesn't celebrate it... I told him this year he better go to Hallmark and buy in to their holiday or I was going to be pissed..haha.

I just want a romantic date...the 2 of us, even if it's at home and maybe a card or flowers or something cheap. We never do anything, just the 2 of us so that is what I would like more than anything.

Re: Sweetest Day

  • I am a total cheese too LOL :)  I love all holidays, and don't discriminate.

I will probably pick up a cheesecake for DH- he loves Crumbs in Oakley.

  • In the past we've always just done a date night, nothing big, no gifts or anything. This year will be different since our anniversary is the 18th we are just going to celebrate our anniversary and probably do nothing for Sweetest Day.

BTW it's not a Halmark Holiday, it was actually started in Cleveland by a guy who would go around and give candy to the poor and homeless as a way to cheer them up back in the day. I looked it up after all the comments I got about our wedding being on Sweetest Day (which it wasn't planned that way) and how it was made up.

  • Sweetest Day is a regional thing, and I never heard of it until I moved here 4 years ago. DH says since I didn't know what it was, he's exempt from celebrating it. So we never do anything. We have a party to go to for his work anyway, so we'll just be doing that.

This! I never heard of it until I moved here. We don't celebrate it since neither one of us did growing up.

  • Ditto the previous posters. I didn't hear about Sweetest Day until I moved here. DH and I pretend it doesn't exist, which was my suggestion.

    I wrote this!
  • DH also calls it a Hallmark holiday and a Cincy thing.  He said that we don't have to celebrate now that we live in Dayton.  I told him that we're celebrating anyway!  I don't even care about the gifts, I just want him to try to be romantic for that one day (we'll see!).  I never heard of Sweetest Day until I was about 20. But anyway, I made reservations for a ghost tour & dinner in Wanyesville on Saturday-not really for Sweetest Day, but that was a bonus!

  • My DH thinks its a bs holiday and like you all said nothing is needed to be bought just a date night would be nice...so he always says that he isnt going to get me anything and I *** about it and then he gets me something and I dont get him anything and I feel like the ass....so now I have just desided to make him his fav dinner and watch his fav movie.
  • We don't. I would have forgotten about it except for ladies mentioning it here.
