Let's talk about the TV tax
Thoughts?
Anyone else pissed that we are going to have to pay for this? It already makes me want to barf when I see how much cable costs and now this.
Re: Let's talk about the TV tax
I haven't heard about this at all... but then again, I only use bunny ears. we're too frugal to pay for cable - there's not a lot on TV that we like that we don't get with the bunny ears.... and we get all our movies or series of shows from the library.
any links that I can read?

I've been feeling this way too... we watch half our shows online now because we always end up missing them when they run on TV. Makes me wonder what I'm paying for....
I find it actually kinda of funny that Bell Canada is really going so hard against this since they own part of CTV (15%)
Maybe because they are already charging an arm and a leg, that if they have to raise fees even more they are putting themselves in jeopardy too as many customers may cut their cable completely.
It makes me sick that the fees might be even more than they are already - it's ridiculous. We were looking at our TV costs the other month and said how we really need to cut whatever we can out. It's so much.
It certainly is a load of BS. Seriously?! Why are WE having to pay more?
Douches.
The opposing campaign (by the broadcastors) is www.localtvmatters.ca/
No way do I want to pay more, (actually I've been meaning to try to cut down my bill somehow, it's waaay too high). But it seems that cable companies are already charging us for local tv, though they don't have to pay any of it to local tv companies. So that sounds like pure profit for them. Now when the local tv companies want a cut of that fee, instead of giving them a cut of what the cable company already charge us, the cable companies want to pass the tv companies fee on to us on top of what we already pay for it. That sounds wrong to me. Maybe I'm not understanding properly, but I don't know why the cable companies are charging us for something they get for free anyway (if this is true). Seems only right that the local tv companies should get a cut of that (without us getting charged any more).
Both sides are very contradictory and I am having trouble figuring out the real truth.... Bottom line though: I will be pissed if my cable bill goes up too.
I agree Erin, the whole thing is confusing. I heard that the US networks somehow play into this too (they aren't getting paid or something).
