How do you usualy celebrate?
Re: Thanksgiving......
his parents and brothers and thir families and my mom and sis our grama's its alot of work but I love getting the family together at our house :0)
Usually we have everyone over about 2pm and they stay till about 6 or 7 and then they go to their in-laws to spend time with them so it works out pretty good :0)
Well we don't really have any traditions yet. My family lives in IN so we spend most Thanksgiving's with dh's family. The last couple of years have been hard for my MIL. Her parents were really sick (they have since passed away) and she was very stressed that she did not want to host. Since our place and sil's place were not big enough to celebrate with all the family over we have gone to Mimi's to eat that last couple of years. I have been doing a mini Thanksgiving the day after in which I cooked everything.
This year it will be different. Since the grandparents have since passed away MIL might not feel so stressed out and may want to go back to hosting. I doubt it though. SIL & BIL did just buy a house and I think SIL will be excited and want to host. SIL & BIL also will probably push for this because they don't like to seperate the day by visiting with her family and his. They always complain that they miss out on stuff because of this.
Which this always frustrates me because you don't see me complaining out loud that I didn't get to see my parents. They are lucky that they are able to split the day in half or even do the day of with one family and the next day with the other.
When we bought our house in 06 I hosted so that both my parents and IL's could come over. I have hosted every year since but it's only the IL's and H and I.
But I am stuck on hosting because it's the only holiday that is "mine". Every other holiday is at his parents house with their food and traditions. I want Mary to have something from my family's traditions. Even if I don't talk to them anymore.
Since we've been down here we go to our friend's aunt & uncle's house in Encino. Our friends meet us there...they come down from the Bay Area. This year, though, my friend is having a baby - due on 11/21 so they won't be coming down. :-)
I've been thinking about making my own T-Day dinner for the 3 of us. We'll see how that goes...
CRAFTY ME
my read shelf:
You will at least be spending Christmas here!
Woo hoo! I can't wait. And I can't wait to see you girls. I know it's close to the holiday but I hope we can still GTG for cheese/wine/chocolate.
Holy crap! Thanksgiving already! No!!!!
We usually spend it with one of our families *cough*IL's*cough* and than have a second thanksgiving later in the weekend with the other. Not really sure what the plan is for this year yet. I was hoping we'd be in our house by then. Not sure if that'll be happening though. If we do get the house, MIL has already decided Christmas is at our place. I don't mind having it there, but I kinda minded her deciding without even asking if it was ok.
Side note, On thanksgiving it'll be H's and my 5 year anniversary of the night we met.
Melinda-How did you guys meet on Thanksgiving?
Brandy-Yey!!!
We always spend it at DH's godparents' house. My ILs, SIL and her dumb@ss FI, etc.
This year ILs are going to Cancun so we may actually spend it with my family in SD.
We actually met the day after Thanksgiving. the 26th just lands on Thanksgiving this year.
ahh gotcha
We spend it at my parents in Sacramento every year. We always do the Run to Feed the Hungry 10K - with more than 20,000 of our closest friends.
Due to my knee, we won't be doing the 10K this time, but I am DETERMINED to get through the 5K, no matter how long it takes. This is one tradition that we don't budge on.
After that, dinner and bickering about differing politics. Always a good time!
