Job update

A staff meeting was held (without me) today. Boss was told that if we get an unemployment extension we have to show proof that we're applying for jobs and have to accept if we get an offer. That now "changes [the situation] a lot" -- so I'm back full-time (but w/o him promising me stability or anything weird like that) as of Monday. Goodbye, laycation!

And now a whine. Please smack me. I've been hoping for full-time for the past month, but now that it's happening I realize how much I'm going to miss my time off. I'll probably never get the opportunity to be home this much. But then again, I'm anxious for a normal routine again and being a productive member of the world again. I don't think doing laundry and nesting (both the online sense and the real life sense) made me feel like a worthwhile person.

Uh, okay, that was rambly. But anyway, thanks for the dust/vibez/luck and sand!

Re: Job update

  • That's terrific news, but I hope this doesn't take away from your nesting time. Wink

  • Oh rest assured, I'll still be on just as often. :)

  • Congratulations mamie! Enjoy the rest of your time off and while I know you'll miss it, it will be great to get back into the swing of things I'm sure.

  • As someone who has had four-month summers for the past two years, I also both loved and hated having all of that time off.  I thought I would love it, because I could lounge around and do whatever I wanted, but I quickly got bored which got me depressed.  Then, I clung to it and didn't want to give it up when school started up again, until I was busy again and realized how much happier I am when I'm doing something productive.  If you're like me, the first few days will probably suck, but then time will start flying by and you won't even miss being at home any more.
  • Congrats! I think you'll totally appreciate it after a little while. You might miss the time at home, but I think you'll feel better working full time. And you'll love the results in your bank account!

  • Lark - I needed to hear that! Thank you.

Zee - Surprisingly I make more on UE and working 10hrs a week than working fulltime. Weird, but true.

  • Congrats Mames!  Glad things are getting back to normal for you - good luck with the transition!  Hopefully once you're into the routine you won't miss the time off too much!!

  • Mamie - I was talking about this with MIL today. All our friends who collect UE seem to be doing so well. They're always on vacation and going out to fancy restaurants and stuff. They don't want jobs because they say they'll make more this way. It seems so insane that the system is this way.

  • One of the reasons it benefited me as it did is because we earn hourly salary plus bonuses. So UE figures your benefit based on the highest quarter of the previous four, therefore it accounted for my bonuses + salary, so I made more on UE + 10 hours if you don't account for my lost bonuses. Does that make sense??
