Personal money question about car payments

My DH and I are looking to get an SUV. So far we are interested in the Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia (crossovers). I am having sticker shock because I have always had a car and have never had more than $320 car payments before. Can you share, some of your car payments on SUV's in particular for those who have bought a car recently. We are going to trade in his Ford Mustang but we are still hoping they give us at least $3000 for it. I want to compare so I can see if the car payment they offer us will be reasonable.

Re: Personal money question about car payments

  • Our car payments are around 500
  • Just try to refinance with a credit union. Car dealerships try to get all the money they can out of you. JMO. I don't have an SUV but a car around 30-40 grand will be about $600-800 a month. This also depends on your credit and how long you want to make payments though.
  • We just bought 2 new cars recently and we pay $474 and $491 for each of them.  The $474 is a Chrysler 300 and the $491 is a Chrysler Pacifica.  You do not need to refinance with a credit union as previous post suggests.  You can either take a low APR if the dealer is offering any specials (0%, 2.9% for example) if they are not offering those specials then you can shop your credit union first to get the best rate and take it to the dealer so you don't have to hassle rate during your buy.
  • I bought a CRV 18 months ago - we financed $16,000 and I paid $325ish a month.

A few months ago we bought a Dodge Ram. We financed $22,000 and the payment is $500 a month.

  • $22k for an 06 GMC Envoy Denali payments are $440/month for 5 yrs....right now is a great time to buy SUVs!!!  My Envoy brand new is in the $40ks and I got it with low miles and warranty plus its certified and has everything!!!

  • We have a 2002 GMC Yukon with all the extras and pay about $300/month for 60 months.
  • I lease my CX7.  $350, $350 down, 3 years, 15k miles/year.
