My fellow charters..

So I have made the decision to stop temping until towards the end of my cycle. (That date being estimated based on my last 3 or 4 cycles). That way I can see if my temp is up. I might not even temp then though, and just test around when I think I would be late.

I am having the hardest time convincing myself to stick with this though. I didn't temp this morning, but now I am second guessing myself! DH said he is fine with whatever - he would like it if neither of us knows exactly when I ovulate, but also would like to know exactly when my period is due. I totally agree with him, but obviously you can't have one without the other haha.

I am trying not to be such a control freak, talk me down!!!

Re: My fellow charters..

  • I don't know what to tell you.  Are you trying to keep your ovulation date a mystery so that you don't feel pressure leading up to it to have sex and get pregnant?

We are not TTC but I am charting just because I can't handle not knowing when my period is coming.  Even when I can't pinpoint my ovulation date, I still have an idea of when it was so I have a range of days during which to expect my period.  That was my favorite part of being on BCP: having regular cycles.  I had to go off for medical reasons so I was very happy to learn about charting and being able to know as much as I can about what's going on and when.

If your cycles are regular and just long, I think not charting would be fine.  I don't think you would need to temp late in your cycle.  Give yourself a test date if you haven't had your period by X day, then try not to worry about it until then Smile  I know, much easier said than done.

  • Yeah, I think I'm totally gonna chart when we finally TTC. We'll see, haha. But I'm super anal and probably OCD. For example, I already decided where I'm putting things in our new kitchen and wrote everything down on the kitchen plan we got from our builder so I don't have to decide when we move in.

  • Ya I've been charting to avoid since February.. My cycles have finally been somewhat consistant for the last four cycles. So I know roughly when I should ovulate, and then roughly when my period should be due. So it won't be a mystery, unless for some reason I ovulate early. I don't ovulate until around cd25ish, so there is always a chance that I will ovulate early.

Basically I am trying to give up that knowledge and control, but it's hard because I am a bit of a control freak Stick out tongue I just keep telling myself that there are plenty of people who don't chart and have no idea when they will ovulate, so I already have more knowledge than that!

This is why we get along.. because this is so me. Hahaha

Hi!!! How come you decided to stop?

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • It was stressing me out. Plus I was waking up in the middle of the night to pee and then sometimes 1 hour- 45 mins before I was supposed to temp so I think it was throwing it off. I think I know from temping before on paper when I am about to O so I am just going to not think about it and see if it happens.  Plus last cycle I was 5 days late and I think it was from my constant temping and worrying!

  • I don't know about temping, but I'm definitely starting to chart.  I'm using www.cyclespage.com for mine, and it's pretty good.  plus, my cycles have been pretty much regular overall, so I think I have a pretty good idea when the time comes...

That actually wouldn't affect anything.. stress can change when you O, but not when your period comes :-) Did you ever read TCOYF, or just FF tutorials?

  • No to boring!!

I am totally giving you the side eye Jenny... if you didn't read any of it how do you know anything about charting? Stick out tongue

  • My 2 girl friends at work, they chart. I flipped through TCOYF but I couldn't read more than one chapter.

  • Haha basically don't all I need to know is to take my temp everyday at the same time, and check my CM?? Hmm if I am missing something maybe I should read it, its just boring.

  • Gotcha.. well a key thing you could have learned from the book or the FF tutorials is that stress can in fact lengthen your cycle. However, the common myth is that it delays your period, when in fact it delays when you ovulate. Your luteal phase (days after ovulation) always remains the same, only varying about 2 days. I'm not sure how it works with endo, so it might be different for you. But stress will never be the cause of a late period, just a late o date Smile

I just saw this second reply, I was typing the other one when you posted it haha. I would definitely read the first few chapters. If you are worried about the length, don't be - you don't need to read the whole thing. If you read the how to parts, then since you have endo I am pretty sure there is a chapter on that so read that part. Then if you ever have questions about other things you can always reference it later. No need to read all of it!

That's what I did. Just read how to do it all, then I have had questions about other things later on so I just checked the index and found my answers in the parts that I hadn't read before.

  • Ok cool thanks, I am hoping that this will be the month then I don't have to worry anymore!!

  • I am just so super excited for you J!
  • I stopped charting midway through my last cycle (I'd been stressed and it was out of whack) thats when i got PG. Honestly once you are pg it doesnt matter if u charted or not in my opinion. Guess your edd by ur lmp. when u get u/s they measure baby anyway. hth  GL :)

  • I didn't temp last cycle and I think that had something to do with me actually ovulating, since I wasn't stressing about whether I did or not. Then, a week or so after I saw my ewcm, I temped and it was high so I figured I did..I think you'll be fine doing it the way you're planning..
