Please help me understand this
I'm very mad about this and I need help understanding what the logic is. I told you ladies that last month Marino burned his hands on a light at a restaurant. I have a picture of the light here on my blog: http://takingontheworldwithourboy.blogspot.com/2009/09/5-on-friday-and-update.html (being lazy, sorry for the blog direction). The light is part of the outdoor waiting area at a family restaurant. This is the kind of restaurant you would almost never go to without a child (think Chucke Cheese, minus the ball pit). The restaurant is fully aware of the incident. The hostesses tried to help me cool his hands inside when he was screaming in pain, I filed and incident report the next day and had my attorney contact them. Just for kicks, I drove by yesterday and the light remains, no guard over it (those lights often have a mesh grill over them).
My question to you all is why would they not do something about this? Anyone who has spent time with a toddler knows they are drawn to lights. There is a good chance someone else's child will touch this light at some point. Why would they allow a month to go by and not take any precautions? I'm so mad about this!

I looked at the blog. Poor Marino! I'm glad he is on the mend though.
I can't believe they haven't made some modifications now that they have notice. They really should because if it happened again they could be in bigger trouble since they knew it was dangerous.

Wow, that picture of his little hand is scary! Poor little guy, and then it looks like he had another spill the other day. Oh little Marino!!
So what does the attorney say about all this? If the restaurant isn't afraid of the light, my gosh, perhaps they would be if a lawsuit was put in place. I mean, really, how many accidents will it take for them to fix the light. And YES, I know how hot those lights are. Now that I saw your picture, I know exactly how hot those lights are.

I saw the photos of Marino's hands...poor thing! What happened with the potential skin grafts? Does he not need them? The blisters look so painful. I'm thinking he won't remember this incident ever happened when he's older.
And that is terrible about the light still remaining unchanged! Unexcusable. I'm sure your lawyer is already on it, but do you know if there is some kind of building/safety code in your area regarding these types of lights? Is there something more you can do to get the word out about this hazard?

He definately doesn't need grafts. The plastic surgeon was amazed when he saw him a week later how well they were healing. We just have to keep them moisturized and clean to the extent we can. Luckily, he loves handwashing right now:)
Well, I'm really glad Marino doesn't need skin grafts but seriously, you'd think restaurants and such would try to cover their a$$es as much as possible regarding law suits. I hope there is a buidling/safety code, as Nicole said, so that they'll have to cover up that light!
I don't know if that incident report you filled out included pictures of Marino's hands but omg, poor baby! Is it possible that the restaurant doesn't quite understand the extent of Marino's burns? If they do, I really don't know why they haven't done anything to prevent something like this from happening again. I wonder if there have been other incidents like this or if Marino was the first?
