For those keeping score, my job kinda sucks. Not what I do, because I like that, but because of the 32 flavors of crazy I get to sample on a daily basis.
Yesterday was particularly bad. I have a doctors appointment for a test that I need to leave and not come back. Well I got serious flack from my manager when I didn't turn in a form (even though I've been pulling 50+ hour work weeks and she wants me to take personal time) and she went right to, "Well if I don't have the form I can write you up and fire you."...Really? And after a long lecture of ridiculous, I was so angry and upset I called HR. In 3 years I have never done that.
I got home and had a few stiff drinks and a good cry, and I really tried to let it go. But I think this is the most upset I've been in quite some time.
So this morning I come in and my boss is relaying this story of how her tire went flat on the way home last night, with both kids in the car throwing tantrums, and she had the worst night ever and wound up crying. While all this is going on, the HR lady called to talk about how she treated me.
She was nice as pie to me this morning and we had a civil discussion about my appointment and time off. And we can work it out since I've been working long hours. How refreshing!
I'm not taking joy in the fact her night stunk, but it makes me think you really should watch how you treat people and what vibe you put out because it will come back. Just sayin.
