Upsetting news

Hey ladies-

I have not been around for a while, two kids keeps you crazy busy, haha.  Its hard to get on the computer, let alone browse the message boards.  We are slowly but surely getting the hang of it all.  Well, we are still planning on moving out to San Francisco. Official move date is November 10 as of now.  However, we just found out yesterday that my mom has breast cancer.  I am really worked up about it, especially because of the move.  They say they have caught it very early, she has been having mammograms every 6 months for like 2 years now because of a fibrotic tissue build up taht they were watching in her left breast.  This time they found the lump, but she can't even feel it from the outside.  They biopsied two places and only one was cancerous.  At this point it looks like a lumpectomy will take care of it, but still, all very scary.  She'll have to be on medication then for the next 5 years.  I just can't believe that I have to move with my mom going through all of this.  I am hoping that it can all be done in the next 3 and a half weeks so i can be here for her.  I am very close with my mom, so its just so tough, and I'm sure you ladies understand with close relationship with your mom.  I know that God is faithful and He will heal her as he sees fit.  Everyone has reassured her how cureable it is so we are all trying to stay positive.  I am just scared you know?  Thanks for reading.  Hope you all are well.

Re: Upsetting news

  • I'm so sorry.  I would feel the same way about wanting to be there for my mom.  I hope she is able to get treatment and be on the way to recovery soon.

  • I def feel for you as I would want to be with my Mom through all of this stuff too.  One of my friends is going through this same thing with her Mom and it has been very difficult for her as well.  All I can say is spend as much time with your Mom and help her out before you leave (maybe help her make some freezer meals, etc for days she doesn't feel much like making food).  Prayers are def coming both your and your Mom's way.

  • Your feelings are totally justified!  I'm glad they caught it early enough and that you are able to be home with her for a few more weeks, rather than hearing the news in California.  Make the most of every moment with her!

FWIW, my mom has been cancer free for over 17 years.  They found a lump during a routine mammogram, she acted quickly with a masectomy and she's been fine ever since!  I wish the same for your mom.

  • absolutly feel the way you do.  There are so many what ifs for you and they are justified.  My mom had a lump in her neck and found out she had to have it removed and tested on the day of our wedding shower.  My dad told me all of the news and that she was really upset about and didn't want anyone to know including me and my brother till after the wedding.  So for a month there was this huge elephant in the room, she knew i knew but refused to talk about untill 3 weeks after our wedding in June! my advise talk with her about it!!!!!
  • Thanks for all of the support ladies.  I appreciate it.  You better believe I'll still be a Central Pa girl even when I move out to Cali.
  • I'm so sorry to hear that, Jess.

I'll keep you and your mom in my prayers.  Just try and stay strong for her. *hugs*

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your mom.  That's great that they found it so early and that it sounds like the healing will be pretty straight-forward.  Try to enjoy the time with her before your move.  Ditto pp on making her meals before you leave.  Maybe even a box of cards/notes/pictures that you fill out ahead of time that she can open once you're in CA whenever she's missing you.  You'll all be in my thoughts and prayers.
  • oh my gosh. I am so sorry. prayers to you and your family!

  • Positive thoughts and prayers to you and your family!!!
  • T&P with you and your whole family.  I am close with my mom as well, she recently had some issues with polyps in her colon, and it was very difficulty to be away at school while that was going on.  Your feelings are totally justified, even when people tell you it's nothing to be afraid of, no one can dictate how you feel.  That being said, there is a lot to be positive about!  We will all be thinking about you, and you can vent here anytime you need to!
  • I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, especially with the move just weeks away. I too would be even more worried not being able to be with my mom full time. It sounds like they've caught it very early, so I hope that she has a speedy and successful recovery. You and your family will be in my T&P!
  • My prayers are with your mom, you and your family!!!
