POLL: Holiday Cards/Letters

I know, I know -- Halloween and Thanksgiving have to happen first. But I'm a very, very, very busy girl and I need to plan ahead -- especially since I like sending my Christmas cards out in early December.

Do you already send Holiday cards (Christmas/Hannukah/New Years)?

Will you send them this year as a married couple (have you done it before? is this your first "together?)?

Do you include a letter with your cards?

Do you include a photo with your cards?

Store bought, handmade, or digital (Shutterfly, Kodak, etc.)?

Re: POLL: Holiday Cards/Letters

  • In the past we've sent just store bought cards -- and only to about 15-20 people. Last year we included our STDs in them. Both our names on them.

This year I'm designing VP postcards with a wedding pic or pics. I'm getting great graphic design inspiration from photoblogs. :)   We'll send to a lot more this year thanks to our guest list database.

  • I've already sent holiday cards by myself, so this will be the first year together.

No letters or photos and they have been store bought in the past.

This year I'm thinking of doing a picture card of us from the wedding. Don't know who/what service I'll use yet to order, but I'm thinking I should look into that soon.

  • I should probably answer too, huh?

We sent out our Save-the-Dates before Christmas last year (lots of OOS-ers), so we did send a Christmas card together as well. We used VistaPrint which has photo cards just like Shutterfly or Snapfish. We used one of our engagement pictures.

This year, I think I may design my own and get VP postcards to send. I'm thinking I may write a Christmas letter on the back -- my mom has done these pretty much my whole life, and I always said when I got married I'd do one too.

I originally wanted to use a wedding photo, but my husband wants to take a new/holiday photo.

  • Call me Scrooge but I really dont like holiday cards.  I feel like its just a waste of time and money.  I send them back to people who send me one, but only because I feel obligated.  I never manage to get them out on time because we are always so busy around the holidays and I never have stamps and I hate going to the post office in December.

I've actually received quite a few "digital" holiday cards. Doesn't help if you don't like them/care to send them, but if it's really the money + fear of the post office, it might be something to try...

  • We sent them as a couple last year and will again this year. I would like to have a picture of our wedding or something in them though.

I could probably handle getting out an e-card but that just seems like such a cop-out (is that right? I dont think i've ever actually written that...)

  • I/we haven't sent out cards in the past, but I feel that we should. I like getting photo cards and letters, but I am not a writer and DH thinks it is a waste of time. So, we will see.
  • We've sent them out in the past.  Probably will this year to spread the word of our new address if we've moved by then.  If we haven't moved I'm not sure if we'll send them.  They'll def be store bought.  We got one from DH's sister last year that was a wedding photo of them.  It honestly seemed kind of AWish, but that may be bc that's how her personality is.

  • I am a fan of stationary and mailing letters so I always send out christmas cards.

We have been sending them out as a couple.

No letter, but I write a personal note on each card.

I usually print off some photo and stick it in the card. Last year we sent an e-pic. This year we'll do a wedding one.

    Store bought.

I'm trying to decide if we need to send them to all the wedding guests that came...

  • I have never sent them out, and won't this year, but I do think it's something I would look into in a year or so. Most of DH's family is really close, so we see them a lot. Other than them, my side of the family is really small and I talk with them often. There's no real reason to send out cards for us at this point.
  • For the holidays, I usually send out a Walgreen's photo postcard or card of us as a family. This year we intended to get "Holiday" pictures taken on the beach, but honestly I'm kind of pictured out from all the wedding stuff.

    This year, I've already sent:

    1) wedding invitations

    2) wedding thank you cards

    3) photo wedding thank you cards

So people have seen recent pictures of the kids + we're moving again in January. Eh, I may skip it this year. I am kind of over the whole mass-mailing thing in 2009.

  • I started sending them a few years back.  At first they were just storebought cards with handwritten notes from me.  Then I started taking pictures with my cat (bought him a new stupid headpiece every year--one year it was reindeer antlers, one year it was a santa hat) and people loved those.  Last year was the first Christmas DH and I lived together so we sent joint cards, also a photo, with BOTH cats in stupid costumes--the girl cat as Mrs. Claus and the boy cat as an elf (with a green pointy collar--awesome!).  I guess we should send a wedding picture this year, unless I can find some new stupid cat costumes!
  • Ever since we moved in together we sent them as a couple...but always just store bought ones, never a picture or letter, just a personalized note.  I've been thinking about doing a wedding picture postcard one this year, but we'll see how motivated I am in a month or so!

  • Do you already send Holiday cards (Christmas/Hannukah/New Years)?with my parents, yes

Will you send them this year as a married couple (have you done it before? is this your first "together?)? yup (we've never done it, other than at work one year...we met while we were working at Wal-mart, so for our first Christmas together we just sent them to people in the departments we worked in from both of us)

Do you include a letter with your cards? no...my parents do that, so that kinda gives the updates on us. We'll probably start that when we have kids.

Do you include a photo with your cards? same as above

Store bought, handmade, or digital (Shutterfly, Kodak, etc.)? probably store bought

  • I hand made a few cards last year and honestly never got around to sending them out because we were too busy working on wedding crap while I was out of school for december... I would like to send some out this year atleast to close relatives since it's our first married christmas but I cant make promises yet...
  • Do you already send Holiday cards (Christmas/Hannukah/New Years)?Yep pretty much every year for the past 5

Will you send them this year as a married couple (have you done it before? is this your first "together?)? we've lived together for 3+ years so we've done every christmas together.

Do you include a letter with your cards? no...but I want to start. I think it's a nice touch...

Do you include a photo with your cards? Last year we did...and I think we will again this year, but not AS the card, but rather in addition.

Store bought, handmade, or digital (Shutterfly, Kodak, etc.)? probably store bought; but I liked the postcard idea from vistaprint from pp.

  • I have always sent out Christmas cards- usually just store bought with a personal note- no letters or pictures and to friends not family.

Yes, I would love to send them out this year as our first cards "together" being married.

I don't think I'll do a letter quite yet- but will ask DH what he thinks about sending a picture.  Most people who we'd send them to were at our wedding, so not sure if that is overkill.

I haven't decided our format yet, but possibly Vistaprint?

  • I'm a little late on this thread, but I've always wanted to send out holiday cards and I never do, and I always feel bad when I get one from a friend because I just don't ever think to do it myself.

Anyway, I want to send out a photo postcard or something this year. Mames, I think VP is an awesome idea. I'm going to have to check them out. I'll probably use a wedding photo because I'm scarily obsessed with our pictures and I like to look at them all the time...

  • DH and I always send Holiday cards to friends and family. We've always signed them and sent them as a couple for many years now.  I sign my name and he signs his, but it will be nice to send them as a married couple this year.

In the past we've sent store bought.  Last year I made all of my Christmas cards. I do Stampin Up cards, so I had the time off last year over Thanksgiving to make them all... they turned out great but was time consuming.

Never sent a letter with ours, but we have sent photos already inside.

Not sure what we are going to do this year, if I only make a few homemade, and buy the rest or make or buy them all?  We talked about getting a first married Christmas picture taken this year, so we'll see if we include that with some of the cards or what we want to do yet.
